Seven Points, Cottonwood and the Lester quarry
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the 2229 Seven Points sand and gravel operation 10.5 miles south of Kemp and Cottonwood Plant 1204, another sand and gravel site, 12.6 miles west. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has worked those pits may still be parked near one of them. Give us the gate location and a phone number for whoever holds the key, and the collection is planned around that yard rather than your driveway.
South-west of town, Patriot Mining and Materials appears in Mine Safety and Health Administration records as an industrial-mineral mine 14.2 miles out, and the Wills Point Lester Plant 1655 crushed-stone quarry sits 23.8 miles north-east. If your truck split its routes between the quarry side and the pit side, tell us which sites it served. Photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab, sent with the VIN, let us ask the right questions on the first call.
Freight, machinery and hay on Kemp’s streets
Of the 124 Kemp carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, 79 list general freight as cargo, while 17 haul machinery and large objects. Box trucks, flatbeds and lowboys all park in the same few streets of this small town. Whatever you run, have the registration and the title together before you reach out.
FMCSA’s census shows 15 Kemp carriers hauling grain, feed or hay, and another 15 moving motor vehicles. A car hauler or a hay trailer setup is just as welcome as a tractor. Say whether the trailer goes with the truck, and send a photo of each with its plate visible.
In-state cab cards
Ninety-two carriers staying inside Texas
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 92 Kemp carriers operating intrastate and 31 crossing state lines, with 38 running private fleets for their own goods. An in-state truck usually carries Texas paperwork only, which keeps the sale simple. If your truck has an IRP apportioned plate from interstate work, tell us so we know which registration to look for.
Every one of the 124 carriers reports drivers working inside a 100-mile radius, and 114 also report drivers going beyond it, per the federal census of motor carriers. A truck that spends the week on longer runs may be sitting at a yard outside Kaufman County when you decide to sell. Tell us where it will be parked, and that address is where we arrange the pickup.
Kemp outfits by tractor count
Kemp yards with one tractor or seven
In FMCSA’s carrier census, the top Kemp fleet runs 11 power units with 11 drivers, the next has 7 units and 5 drivers, and the third has 4 of each. Most sellers here are therefore an owner with one or two trucks, or a small outfit trimming a unit. Selling one tractor out of seven works the same way as selling your only one.
FMCSA mileage filings from 31 Kemp carriers put the typical truck here at a median of 40,000 miles in a year. Have the odometer reading and the most recent service records ready when you call. Odometer and service file together answer most of our early questions about a Kemp tractor.
Twenty-two Kemp registrations since 2024
FMCSA’s carrier census records 15 new carriers registering in Kemp during 2024 and 7 more in 2025. A newer operation that bought a truck on a loan should have the lienholder’s name and contact handy. If a lender still holds the title, tell us at the start so the payoff and release are part of the plan.
A carrier that has closed its authority can still sell the truck it ran. Keep the USDOT number, the cab card and the title together, even if the business itself is no longer active. Those three documents answer most of what we need to know.
In Texas, title copies come from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles through the county tax assessor-collector offices. For Kemp, that is the Kaufman County Tax Office at 100 North Washington Street in Kaufman, which the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles places 11.9 miles from town. Bring photo ID and the VIN to request a certified copy if the original is missing.
If the title shows a name other than yours, or a lien that was settled but never released, raise it with that Kaufman office before the pickup date. Tell us what the title currently says, and we will tell you which document has to change hands at collection.
Clear bridges and cattle country
Of the 34 spans around Kemp in the National Bridge Inventory, not one carries a load posting or sits below fourteen feet of clearance. A loaded lowboy or a tall box truck can reach town without detours around posted spans. Tell us the trailer height if the truck will leave with one attached.
Kaufman County has 2,478 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, equine and deer listed as the top operations. Stock trailers, horse haulers and ranch flatbeds parked on rural land outside Kemp can be collected where they sit. Send directions to the gate and say whether the ground is firm enough for a tow truck.
The questions we get asked in Kemp
- Can a dump truck left at the Seven Points gravel site south of Kemp be picked up there instead of in town? The 2229 Seven Points sand and gravel operation sits 10.5 miles south of Kemp in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and the truck can be collected right there. Pass along the pit foreman’s number so someone unlocks the Seven Points gate for us.
- Which office near Kemp reissues a missing title for a semi or dump truck?Kemp’s title office, per the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, is the Kaufman County Tax Office on North Washington Street in Kaufman, 11.9 miles away, and it handles title copies for the county. Take a driver’s license and the truck’s VIN to the Washington Street counter.
- I run cattle outside Kemp and want to sell a ranch truck and stock trailer together; can both leave in one collection?Kaufman County’s 2,478 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture lead with cattle, so ranch rigs are common here and the pair can go together. Send photos of both with the VINs and the trailer’s plate.
