Quarry country north of Kyle
The Mine Safety and Health Administration places the Texas-Lehigh Cement Plant & Quarry 5 miles north-east of Kyle and the Buda Quarry 5.4 miles north. A dump truck or mixer that shuttles between those two gates and Kyle job sites can be collected from your yard in town or from a lot near either plant; tell us which, and who holds the key.
Further out, Hunter Quarry is a crushed-stone operation 15.3 miles south-west, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and the same agency lists two sand and gravel operations to the north-east: Texas Materials Hergotz Plant at 21.5 miles and Garfield Sand & Gravel at 22.7 miles. If an aggregate hauler is parked at one of those sites, send the site name with your photos so the pickup is planned for that address rather than your home.
Tankers, Mustang Ridge and the bases up the road
The Energy Information Administration lists the Mustang Ridge fuels terminal, a petroleum product terminal, 12.7 miles east of Kyle. Owners of tank trucks that load there should keep the registration and any tank inspection paperwork together, and photograph the tank, the cab and the VIN plate before getting in touch.
Two military installations appear in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records north of town: NG Bergstrom at 17.8 miles north-east and Army Futures Command at 20.8 miles north. A tractor stored near either one is still a Kyle sale to us; give us the street address and whether a gate pass is needed to reach it.
Freight, lumber and car haulers on Kyle’s books
Kyle is home to 468 active carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and 284 of them put general freight on their cargo list. In that FMCSA census, 42 list logs, poles, beams and lumber, 38 carrying motor vehicles and 37 moving machinery and large objects, so a car hauler, a lowboy or a log trailer setup from Kyle is one we know how to collect.
Of those carriers, 398 run intrastate only and 70 cross state lines, while 64 are private fleets hauling their own goods, again per FMCSA’s carrier census. If your truck spent its working life inside Texas, the Texas title and current registration are the two papers to find first.
New registrations keep arriving: the FMCSA carrier census records 51 new Kyle carriers in 2025 and 45 in 2024. An owner-operator who started recently and is now selling one tractor needs the same things as a larger outfit: title, registration and clear photos of each side of the truck.
Short runs, long runs and the trucks behind them
Drivers working for Kyle carriers split fairly evenly by distance, with 730 operating within 100 miles and 607 going beyond, according to FMCSA’s carrier census. Among the 124 carriers that reported mileage to the same census, the median truck covers 37,000 miles a year; have your odometer reading ready when you write to us.
The three biggest local fleets in FMCSA’s carrier census run 147, 103 and 24 power units. If you manage a fleet that size and are thinning it, send us a list of units with VINs and where each one is parked, and we will work through them as one sale.
What inspectors and bridge records show for Kyle trucks
Between late August 2024 and late August 2026, roadside inspectors stopped 359 trucks run by Kyle carriers, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give those trucks a median model year of 2013, with 61 percent built ten or more years before. Whatever the year of yours, include it with the make and model in your first message.
Kyle has 54 bridges on the National Bridge Inventory’s books, a single one load-posted and not one below 14 feet. When you get in touch, tell us the street where the truck stands and whether anything on the way in limits height or weight.
Warehouse jobs, Hays County builders and mushroom farms
In 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 9,730 jobs in Kyle, with 786 in transportation and warehousing, 510 in construction, 375 in manufacturing and 234 in wholesale trade. Box trucks from distribution work and flatbeds from building sites are both trucks we buy here.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 154 construction establishments, and USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 940 farms across Hays County, with mushrooms, cattle and horses as the leading products. A livestock hauler or a farm truck kept on a ranch outside Kyle can be collected where it sits, so send the ranch address and a gate contact.
The questions we get asked in Kyle
- Can you collect a dump truck that sits at the Buda Quarry instead of in Kyle itself? We can, since the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Buda Quarry 5.4 miles north of Kyle and we collect from there; give us the location and someone who can let us in.
- Which papers and photos help with a fuel truck that loads at Mustang Ridge? The Energy Information Administration places that terminal 12.7 miles east of Kyle; send the VIN, the title, the registration and photos of the tank and cab.
- Does a Kyle truck that never left Texas need anything extra to sell? No; FMCSA’s carrier census shows 398 of Kyle’s 468 active carriers operate intrastate only, so have your Texas title and registration ready.
