Quarry country north-west of the lake
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Spicewood Quarry, a crushed-stone operation, 9.4 miles north-west of Lakeway, and Highway 71 Quarry another seven miles out at 16.4 miles. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has hauled aggregate from either pit may still be parked at a contractor’s yard out that way, and we can collect it there rather than in town. Send the yard address and a gate contact with your first message.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration also lists two dimension-stone sites, Rock Quarry at 17 miles north-east and Cordova Quarry at 18.5 miles north. If your flatbed or tractor carried cut stone from either, tell us the trailer it pulled and whether the trailer is part of the sale.
East of town, Texas Materials Hergotz Plant is a sand and gravel operation 21 miles away by the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s listing. Trucks that cycled between Hergotz and building sites on the west side of the county often keep a fuel or maintenance log in the cab; photograph its cover and a few pages and include them with your pictures of the frame, tires and odometer.
The Austin terminal and the military posts east of town
Fuel trucks around the lake load at AUSTIN PLANT, which the Energy Information Administration lists as a petroleum product terminal 14.9 miles east. If your truck is a fuel or lube unit that loaded there, have the tank’s most recent inspection paperwork with the title, since those records travel with the tank when it changes hands.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places Army Futures Command 13.1 miles east and NG Camp Mabry 13.6 miles east, both on the Austin side. A box truck or tractor that ran deliveries onto either installation can be picked up wherever it now sits; we only need to know whether a gate pass or escort is needed to reach it.
Small private fleets and owner-operators
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 11 active motor carriers based in Lakeway, and 8 of them are registered for intrastate work only while 3 hold interstate authority. For a Texas-only truck, the registration and the cab card carry what we need; for an interstate unit, add the IRP cab card and the last annual inspection sheet.
Six of those 11 Lakeway outfits are private fleets, the federal carrier census records, meaning they haul their own goods rather than freight for hire. In that same FMCSA census the fleets are small, with one listing 3 power units and 2 drivers and another a single truck and a single driver. Selling one of three trucks is as simple for us as buying a whole yard, so tell us which unit you are letting go.
By cargo type in FMCSA’s census, 5 local carriers declare general freight, 3 machinery and large objects, 2 refrigerated food and 2 meat. A reefer unit should come with the trailer’s own serial number and the unit hours from the reefer controller, photographed alongside the tractor’s dash.
New registrations stay thin: the federal carrier census logged 2 new Lakeway carriers in 2025 and none in 2024. If you started up in 2025 and are now stepping back, the truck’s purchase paperwork and title are usually still in one folder, which keeps the handover short.
Construction and wholesale around the lake
Wholesale trade accounts for 424 and construction for 305 of Lakeway’s 8,042 jobs in 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts show, alongside 136 in manufacturing and 98 in transportation and warehousing. Contractor pickups with dump beds, stake-bed trucks and wholesale delivery vans all fall within what we buy.
Around Lakeway there are 119 construction establishments against just 5 in warehousing, by the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If your truck belongs to a construction firm rather than to you personally, the title will be in the company’s name, so the sale needs someone authorised to sign for the business.
Bridges, ranches and getting the truck out
The National Bridge Inventory from the Federal Highway Administration counts 7 bridges in Lakeway, with no load postings and none under 14 feet of clearance. Give us the street address where the truck sits and we will plan the route out from there.
Across Travis County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 870 farms, with cattle, corn and horses as the leading products. A livestock hauler, grain truck or horse-trailer tractor parked on a ranch outside Lakeway is collected on the property itself; mention any gate code and whether the road in is gravel.
If the title is lost, the replacement comes from the Texas title office before the sale closes. Start that request early and send us a copy of the registration and the VIN plate photo in the meantime so the rest can be prepared.
The questions we get asked in Lakeway
- The dump truck sits at a contractor yard by Spicewood Quarry, outside Lakeway. Must I haul it to a Lakeway address before you collect?Spicewood Quarry is 9.4 miles north-west of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from yards out there directly. Pass along the yard’s address plus a phone number for the person holding the gate key.
- I run a two-truck private fleet out of Lakeway hauling my own equipment. Would you buy one of the two and leave the other?Six of Lakeway’s 11 active carriers in FMCSA’s census are private fleets like yours, and selling a single unit from one of them is routine for us. Tell us which truck, and have its title and registration in the business name ready.
- Our Lakeway truck has run Texas roads only, never across a state line. What paperwork matters?Eight of the 11 Lakeway carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census are intrastate-only, so Texas-only paperwork is the norm here: the title, the current registration and the most recent state inspection record cover it.
- The truck hauled cattle on a ranch in Travis County. Will you come out to the ranch?Cattle lead the county’s 870 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and ranch pickups are part of collecting in Travis County. Tell us the gate details and whether the road in is paved or gravel.
