A small Lucas carrier base that stays on Texas roads
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 11 active carriers based in Lucas, and 10 of them run intrastate only, with just 1 authorised to cross state lines. If your truck has spent its working life on Texas roads, have the Texas registration and the title in your name ready; a Lucas sale starts from those two papers.
Six Lucas carriers in that FMCSA census haul for their own businesses as private fleets rather than for hire. A business that owns a truck for its own deliveries can sell it to us directly; have someone with signing authority for the company named on the title available when we arrange collection.
The census from FMCSA also splits drivers almost evenly by distance: 26 work within 100 miles of home and 24 go beyond that. A tractor that runs regional loads may be parked away from Lucas when you contact us, so tell us the town or yard where it actually sits and we plan the pickup there.
General freight, heavy machinery and utility work
General freight is the most common cargo among Lucas carriers, with 6 of them listing it in FMCSA’s carrier census, and 4 more haul machinery and large objects. Lowboys, step-decks and the tractors that pull them fit that second group; send photos of the trailer deck and the hitch alongside the cab so we see the whole rig.
Two carriers here list utility work and 1 lists beverages, per the FMCSA carrier census. Bucket trucks, line trucks and beverage route trucks carry bodies that matter as much as the chassis, so note the body make and any lift or boom serial plate when you write to us.
Fleet sizes in town stay small: the FMCSA census puts the largest Lucas operation at 33 power units with 12 drivers, then fleets of 5 and 4 power units. Whether you are selling one truck or several from a yard like that, a list of VINs lets us look at every unit before we talk about collecting any of them.
Inspection-year profile of the Lucas truck fleet
FMCSA roadside inspection records from late August 2024 through late August 2026 take in 172 Lucas-based trucks, whose median model year works out to 2019. Have the model year, engine make and odometer reading to hand when you contact us; those three answers frame the rest of the conversation.
A quarter of those inspected trucks, 25 percent in the FMCSA roadside inspection records, were ten or more model years old. Older or newer, the same paperwork applies: the title, a current registration, and any inspection or service records you have kept in the cab or the office.
Wylie, the Dallas ramps and the Caddo terminal
The North American Rail Network places the WYLIE rail yard 6.6 miles south-east of Lucas, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Wylie intermodal ramp at 6.7 miles in the same direction. A day cab that shuttles containers off that ramp can be collected from a drop lot near Wylie; give us the lot address and a gate contact.
Further out, the DALLAS IMF rail yard lies 17.6 miles south on the North American Rail Network, and the Mesquite ramp sits 22.5 miles south according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tractor is parked down near Mesquite between loads, you do not have to bring it back to Lucas first.
East of town, the Energy Information Administration records the SUNOCO CADDO LLC petroleum product terminal 22.6 miles away. Fuel haulers serving that terminal should tell us whether the tank trailer is part of the sale or stays behind, so the collection covers only what you are selling.
Lucas bridges, gates and the way out to collect
No load posting and no clearance below 14 feet appear on any of the 8 Lucas structures listed in the National Bridge Inventory. A heavy tractor or a tall box truck meets no posted weight or height limit on those structures, so send us the street address and we plan the pickup route from there.
Lucas lies 6.6 miles north-west of the WYLIE rail yard on the North American Rail Network, close enough that a truck may be parked at a yard in either town. Give us the exact address, any gate code, and the name of whoever will meet us on site.
Lucas job sites, wholesale yards and Collin County cattle and grain
Of 2,135 jobs counted in Lucas for 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, construction holds 173, wholesale trade 171 and manufacturing 86. Dump trucks, flatbeds and box trucks serving those sectors are all trucks we buy, and a short note on what the truck carried helps us describe it correctly.
Builders in the wider county number 118 establishments, a figure from the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns for Collin County’s construction sector. A contractor retiring a dump truck or a water truck from one of those firms should have the company title, any equipment serial numbers, and photos of the bed and the hydraulics ready.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 2,330 farms in Collin County, with cattle, wheat and corn as the leading products. Livestock haulers, grain trucks and farm-plated tractors can be sold the same way; if the truck carries farm plates, include the registration so we know how it is titled.
The questions we get asked in Lucas
- My Lucas truck has only ever run intrastate. Is the sale handled differently from an interstate rig?Ten of the 11 active Lucas carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census run intrastate only, and a Texas-only truck is sold the same way as any other: send the title, the registration and photos, and we arrange collection where it is parked.
- The tractor sits on a drop lot beside the Wylie intermodal ramp, south-east of Lucas. Do you collect from Wylie lots? The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Wylie ramp 6.7 miles south-east of Lucas, and we collect from lots like that; give us the address, the lot owner’s name and a contact who can open the gate.
- My Lucas business runs a handful of power units. Can all of them be sold to you together, VIN by VIN?Lucas fleets in the FMCSA carrier census range from 4 to 33 power units, and selling several together works the same as selling one: send a list of VINs with photos of each truck, and we review every unit before planning collection.
