Gravel a mile off
Dump work from the two southern gravel pits
M-R Aggregates, a sand and gravel operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register, lies 0.9 miles south-east of Mikes. A tandem dump or end-dump that loads there most days is likely parked at the pit or at home between runs, so tell us which spot to come to and whether a loader or other equipment might be in the way.
Heading south, the Alto Bonito Gravel Pit shows up 2.5 miles from town in the Mine Safety and Health Administration listings. If your truck hauls from that pit, send the VIN, a photo of the door plate and pictures of the bed and hoist; a driver heads out to the gravel road once we have looked them over.
Frontera Materials and the mobile crushers
East of town, the Mine Safety and Health Administration places Mobile Crusher #3 Frontera Materials, a crushed-stone quarry 9.9 miles from Mikes. Rock haulers and side-dumps assigned to a portable crusher can change locations with the plant, so give us the current site address rather than the one on last month’s ticket.
Mobile Crusher #1, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists as a crushed-stone quarry 18.2 miles north-east, is the farthest of the four mine sites near town. If your truck is staged out there when you call, we can collect it at the quarry gate; just confirm someone can let a driver onto the site and that the keys stay with the truck.
Pastures and grain fields
Stock trailers and harvest trucks on the ranch roads
Around Mikes, cattle lead the farm list for Starr County in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with sorghum and corn after them across 1,126 farms. That mix puts gooseneck and pot trailers, grain trucks and flatbeds on the ranch roads, and any of those tractors or straight trucks can be sold to us from the pasture where it sits.
Grain trucks used only at harvest often go months between trips, so a seller here should find the registration and the title before calling rather than after. Photos of the box, the tarp system and the cab interior belong in the first message, and a note on which season the truck last hauled sorghum or corn fills in the rest.
The Rio Grande City counter for missing Texas titles
Titles in Texas come from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, and its local counter for Mikes is the Starr County Tax Office at 100 N FM 3167, Suite 201, Rio Grande City, 78582, a county tax assessor-collector office 14.6 miles away according to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. If the title for your dump truck or cattle hauler has gone missing, that is the office that handles a certified copy.
Bring photo identification and the VIN when you go to Rio Grande City, and if a lender once held the truck, bring the lien release too. When the replacement is in hand, send us a picture of both sides so the name on it can be checked against the registration before pickup is arranged.
Pin, keys and papers before the driver arrives
Most trucks from this corner of Starr County will be collected at a pit, a ranch gate or a yard beside the house, not on a paved lot. Send a dropped pin or plain directions from FM roads, mention any locked cattle guard, and tell us whether the ground holds up after rain.
Clear personal tools, radios and ranch gear from the cab, leave the keys in an agreed place, and keep the signed title together with the registration and any service records. With those ready, the driver who comes to Mikes only has to check the VIN and load the truck.
