Shale, dimension stone and crushed rock south of town
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Millsap Shale Mine 6.9 miles south-east of Mineral Wells and Quality Stone of Mineral Wells, a dimension-stone quarry, 7 miles to the south-west. A dump truck or flatbed that loads at either site may well be parked at the pit gate rather than in town, so tell us which site it sits at and who can let us through.
Further south, Weatherford Quarry is 12.6 miles out and Grindstone is 16.6 miles out, both crushed-stone quarries on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register. If your truck hauled aggregate from either one, send photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab along with the VIN, and say which quarry it served.
Tin Top and the far stone pit
TIN TOP SAND AND GRAVEL PLANT lies 22.3 miles south-east of town according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and Pit 1, another dimension-stone quarry, is 23.7 miles to the south-west. A truck kept out at one of those yards does not need to come back to Mineral Wells for us to collect it; give us the yard address and a contact on site.
Palo Pinto County had 73 mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction jobs in 2023, per the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, beside 141 in construction. Owners in either line of work should have the title and current registration in the same name before we arrange the pickup.
Freight, oilfield and farm loads from Mineral Wells
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 147 active carriers based in Mineral Wells, with 65 hauling general freight, 31 machinery and large objects, 28 oilfield equipment and 21 farm supplies. Tell us which of those loads your tractor or straight truck pulled, so our questions start with the right equipment.
Of those 147 carriers, 122 run intrastate only and 25 cross state lines, and 61 are private fleets hauling their own goods, again by FMCSA’s census. A private-fleet truck often has its maintenance logs in the company office; pull those together with the title before we come out.
New registrations in that same federal census numbered 8 in 2024 and 7 in 2025. If you set up your authority recently and are now selling the truck, have the registration and any lien release on hand.
Owner-operators up to Palo Pinto’s bigger outfits
Mineral Wells’ top three fleets in the FMCSA census field 72, 24 and 15 power units against 65, 17 and 21 drivers. If you are clearing out several units at once, send a list of VINs and where each one is parked, and we will plan the collection as one job.
Across 37 local carriers reporting mileage, FMCSA’s census puts the median at 30,500 miles a truck each year. The same FMCSA census lists 167 drivers working within 100 miles and 218 going further. If your truck is sitting at a yard outside Palo Pinto County when you sell it, tell us the location wherever it is.
Model years and the local bridges
FMCSA roadside inspection records from 2024-09-05 to 2026-08-21 cover 140 trucks tied to Mineral Wells carriers, with a median model year of 2014 and 56.4 percent ten or more model years old. Whatever the year of yours, a clear photo of the VIN plate and the odometer gives us what we need to start.
None of the 49 bridges the National Bridge Inventory records for the area is load-posted, and none clears under 14 feet. A heavy hauler or a tall trailer can be reached on local roads, so the pickup can be set at the address where the truck already stands.
Factories, Fort Wolters and Palo Pinto ranches
Manufacturing accounted for 1,496 of the area’s 6,366 jobs in 2023, or 23.5 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, with 149 more in wholesale trade. Box trucks and tractors serving plant docks belong on our list; bring the registration and any service invoices you kept.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places NG Fort Wolters 4 miles north-east of town. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau show 36 construction establishments in the county, and the USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,147 Palo Pinto County farms, led by cattle, horses and goats. A stock-trailer tractor or a ranch flatbed can be collected straight from the property.
