Produce, reefers and general freight out of Mission
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 1,429 active carriers based in Mission, and 1,012 of them are registered to haul general freight. That makes a dry van tractor or straight truck the most common kind of seller we hear from here, so have the title in your name and the registration current before you call.
Fresh produce is on the authority of 532 Mission carriers in FMCSA’s census, with 467 listing refrigerated food and 467 listing meat. If you are selling a reefer tractor or a reefer straight truck, tell us whether the trailer or the refrigeration unit goes with it, and photograph the unit’s data plate alongside the cab.
Of those carriers, 940 run intrastate only, 479 hold interstate authority and 199 are private fleets, by FMCSA’s count. An intrastate truck kept on Texas plates is often parked at the owner’s yard in town; give us that street address and the name of whoever holds the keys.
New authority
Owner-operators who started recently
Mission added 124 new carriers in 2025 and 74 in 2024, according to FMCSA’s carrier census. If you are one of those newer operators and the truck still carries a lien, have the lender’s name and payoff contact ready so the title can be released to us cleanly.
On the other end, FMCSA’s census shows Mission fleets of 110, 60 and 55 power units, with 115, 27 and 61 drivers. A fleet selling several units at once can send one list of VINs, the yard address and a single contact, and we work through them from that list.
Dump trucks near the Hidalgo County pits
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Texan Pit, a sand and gravel operation 6.1 miles north-east of Mission, and Tabasco Pit, 8.4 miles north-west. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that hauls from those pits can be collected where it is parked; tell us which side of town and whether a lowboy can reach the gate.
Further out, MSHA records MOBILE CRUSHER #3 FRONTERA MATERIALS 10.6 miles west and La Havana Pit 12.1 miles north-east, both crushed-stone quarries. If your truck sits at a quarry site, get the operator’s permission for a pickup in advance and send us the site contact’s phone number.
Mission’s 844 construction jobs in 2023, a figure from the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, sit beside 74 construction establishments tallied in County Business Patterns. Contractors selling a dump, mixer or flatbed should bring the title, the registration and any service records kept at the shop.
Container drayage to Donna and fuel loads at Edinburg
Donna’s Rio Valley rail intermodal ramp lies 14.7 miles east of Mission in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings. A day cab that drays containers to that ramp can be picked up from a lot in Donna as easily as from Mission; just send the exact location.
The Energy Information Administration places the EDINBURG petroleum product terminal 16.5 miles north-east. Tank truck and fuel tractor owners who load there should list what the tank last carried and include its inspection paperwork with the title.
Cotton, corn and cattle across Hidalgo County
Hidalgo County holds 2,045 farms with cotton, corn and cattle leading, says USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Grain trucks, cattle haulers and farm-plated tractors parked out at a field or a barn are collected there, so give us directions from the nearest paved road.
Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting add 90 jobs in Mission under the 2023 LEHD job counts from the Census Bureau, while wholesale trade adds 857. A farm truck sold off a family operation needs the titled owner’s signature, so if the title is in a relative’s name, sort that out with them first.
Roadside inspections and Mission’s bridge postings
Across 1,344 trucks inspected in Mission between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records show a median model year of 2018, with 40.2 percent ten or more years old. Whatever the year of yours, give us the VIN first and the questions after that are short.
Two of Mission’s 42 bridges carry load postings and no clearance falls below 14 feet, per the National Bridge Inventory. Tell us the route into the yard where the truck sits so the carrier we send can plan around those two posted bridges.
The questions we get asked in Mission
- My reefer sits at a packing shed outside Mission; does it have to come into town first? It stays put: with 532 Mission carriers hauling fresh produce in FMCSA’s carrier census, sheds and cold yards are common pickup spots, so send the address and a contact who can let the driver in.
- Will you pick up a dump truck that is parked at Texan Pit?We will; the Mine Safety and Health Administration puts Texan Pit 6.1 miles north-east of Mission, so clear the pickup with the pit operator and give us their contact.
- Do posted bridges around Mission matter for the pickup? The National Bridge Inventory shows two load-posted bridges among Mission’s 42, so tell us the roads to your truck and we route the collection around them.
