Alliance
Day cabs that shuttle boxes west of Roanoke
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Alliance intermodal ramp 6.9 miles west of Roanoke. A day cab that shuttles boxes between that ramp and Roanoke-area docks is a truck we buy, and it can stay parked near the ramp while we arrange collection; send us the yard address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Alliance also appears as a rail yard 7.3 miles west of town in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tractor has pulled chassis out of that yard, photograph the fifth wheel, the cab and the VIN plate, and have the Texas title in hand before we talk.
Tankers around Southlake and the south-west terminals
Two petroleum product terminals listed under the Southlake name by the Energy Information Administration sit 9.2 miles south-east and 11.3 miles east of Roanoke. Fuel tractors that load at those racks can be sold with or without the tank trailer; tell us which units go together and keep any tank test certificates with the title.
South-west of town, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists Quality Transload Inc as a liquid bulk terminal 12.7 miles away, with a second liquid bulk terminal at 13.7 miles. A tractor parked at either site does not need to come back to Roanoke first; give us the terminal name and a contact on site so the pickup can be set up there.
General freight, machinery, dry bulk and moving vans
Fifty Roanoke outfits haul general freight, out of the 80 active motor carriers that FMCSA’s carrier census places in town. A van-hauling sleeper or day cab from one of those freight outfits fits squarely in what we buy; have its registration and recent service invoices ready.
Among those same Roanoke carriers in the federal census, 18 list machinery and large objects, 11 list dry bulk commodities and 10 list household goods. Lowboy tractors, hopper rigs and moving vans each sell to us as readily as a freight tractor; if a trailer is part of the sale, include its own title and a photo of its plate.
The carrier census also records 8 new Roanoke carriers registered in 2025, after 4 in 2024. A newer operation closing out a truck it bought recently can still sell it to us; bring the lienholder’s name if a loan remains, so the payoff letter can be requested early.
Intrastate hauls, cross-border authority and in-house trucks
According to FMCSA, 51 Roanoke carriers operate intrastate only and 28 hold interstate authority, while 25 run private fleets that haul their own goods. A private-fleet truck from a builder or distributor sells to us the same way a for-hire tractor does; the company officer who signs the title is the one we need on the call.
Drivers based here split across range in the census: 109 work within 100 miles and 174 run beyond it. A long-haul sleeper may be out on the road when you decide to sell, so tell us where it will be parked at the end of its last trip and we will plan around that spot.
FMCSA’s carrier census puts the median annual mileage at 52,500 per truck across the 18 Roanoke carriers that reported it. Write the current odometer reading down alongside the VIN before you reach out, since those two figures are the first we ask for.
Multi-unit Roanoke fleets and lone owner-operators
At the top of Roanoke’s roster in FMCSA’s carrier census, one fleet runs 66 power units with 89 drivers, the next 27 units with 15 drivers and the third 14 units with 15 drivers. A fleet manager retiring several units at once can list them on one sheet with VINs and lot addresses, and we will work through the group together.
Alongside those three, the rest of the 80 carriers counted by FMCSA here run smaller fleets. An owner-operator selling a single truck gets the same process: title, registration, photos of all four sides and the cab, and an address where the truck can be reached.
Wholesale, construction and the work around town
Of 7,237 jobs located in Roanoke in 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts put 1,208 in wholesale trade, or 16.7 percent. Box trucks and tractors that stock warehouse and distribution floors are common in that line of work; if yours ran a dedicated route, a note on what it hauled helps us place it.
The same LEHD figures show 492 construction jobs, 441 in transportation and warehousing and 434 in manufacturing in Roanoke. Dump trucks, flatbeds and straight trucks from job sites are all on our list; tell us whether the truck sits on an active site so we can arrange access with the site supervisor.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Denton Pits, an industrial-mineral mine, 12.9 miles north-east of Roanoke. A dump or end-dump tractor that hauls from the pit can be collected at the mine gate if that is where it is kept; check with the operator that a pickup crew is allowed on the property.
Posted bridges in town, horse and grain farms across the county
FHWA’s bridge records show three of Roanoke’s twenty bridges carrying a posted load limit, and none of them under fourteen feet of clearance. When you send the pickup address, say whether the way out crosses one of the posted spans so we bring a rig that fits.
USDA’s 2022 farm census counts 2,936 farms across the county, led by equine, then wheat and sorghum. Farm trucks, grain haulers and tractors that pull horse trailers are trucks we buy; a farm-plated truck needs its title in the farm’s or the owner’s name, and we can collect it at the barn or the field gate.
The questions we get asked in Roanoke
- My container tractor sits in a lot beside Alliance, west of town. Does it need driving into Roanoke for the sale? The Bureau of Transportation Statistics puts the Alliance ramp 6.9 miles west of town, and we collect from there. Pass along the Alliance lot’s address plus a phone number for the person holding its gate key.
- I run a fuel tractor out of the Southlake terminals. Will you take the tanker too? Those Southlake petroleum terminals sit 9.2 and 11.3 miles from Roanoke on Energy Information Administration listings, and we buy tractors that serve them with or without the tank trailer. Tell us which units are included and send each title.
- I own a dump truck that hauls from Denton Pits. Can it be picked up at the mine?Denton Pits is 12.9 miles north-east of Roanoke according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and a pickup at the mine gate works if the operator allows our crew on site. Confirm access with them before we schedule.
- Our fleet wants to sell several units. Can we do it in one deal?Roanoke fleets in FMCSA’s carrier census run as large as 66 power units, and a group sale is handled as one list. Send the VINs, odometer readings and where each truck is parked.
