Stone, sand and gravel around Socorro
Two dimension-stone quarries, Soto’s Rock and JDF Materials LLC, sit 5.8 miles north of town in the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s mine register. If your dump truck or flatbed has been hauling block or cut stone out of either site, tell us which one, and send a photo of the bed along with the cab and the VIN plate.
Roadrunner Sand Pit lies 6.7 miles north-west, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration also lists Pipeline Quarry and MTI Sandpit Cascade Division together 7.4 miles to the east. A truck that is still parked at one of those pits can stay there; give us the gate contact and the hours the site is open, and we plan the collection around the operator rather than asking you to move the truck.
Fuel tankers and the Alfalfa rail yard
The Energy Information Administration places a petroleum product terminal named El Paso 5.8 miles south-east of Socorro, with a second, El Paso TX, 12 miles to the north-west. For a fuel tanker or tractor that has loaded at either terminal, have the title and the registration cab card side by side so the names on both can be checked against each other.
Alfalfa rail yard is 10.8 miles north-west, on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that shuttle loads to and from that yard often spend the week parked near it; if yours is sitting in a lot there, tell us whose lot it is so the pickup is arranged with them.
Freight, paper, beverages and car haulers
Of the 153 active Socorro carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, general freight is on the cargo list for 115. Box trucks, dry vans and the tractors that pull them are what that freight produces, so if yours hauled general loads, a clean registration and a few walk-around photos cover most of what we ask.
Paper products appear on 25 of those registrations, while beverages and motor vehicles each show up on 23, according to the same FMCSA carrier census. A beverage route truck or a car hauler from one of those outfits is welcome; note the body type and the trailer it pulled when you contact us.
Interstate and intrastate operators are split evenly at 76 each in FMCSA’s census, which also shows 19 private fleets that haul only their own goods. If the truck belongs to a private fleet, the person signing the title must be someone the business authorises, so check that before we schedule the pickup.
Socorro fleet sizes and driving radius
The three biggest local fleets on FMCSA’s census run 42, 26 and 12 power units, with 50, 9 and 12 drivers. Selling several units at once from a yard like that is straightforward: send a list of VINs and where each truck is parked, and we work through them as one job.
According to FMCSA’s carrier census, 70 drivers here stay within 100 miles while 272 work beyond that radius, and the median carrier reporting mileage logs 40,000 miles per truck across 49 carriers. A long-haul sleeper may be out on a run when you decide to sell, so give us the yard or address where it will be when it gets back.
New registrations held steady, with FMCSA’s census showing 15 new carriers in 2025 and another 15 in 2024. If you are one of those newer operators, have the title in the company name or yours, whichever it was registered under, and the most recent registration renewal.
Roadside stops and Socorro’s bridges
Trucks tied to Socorro carriers were stopped 1,222 times in FMCSA roadside inspection records between August 2024 and August 2026, with a median model year of 2020 and 29.7 percent ten or more years old. Whatever year yours is, the VIN, the odometer reading and the most recent inspection report are the first three things we ask for.
Of the 18 bridges in Socorro on the National Bridge Inventory kept by the Federal Highway Administration, one is load-posted and none is under 14 feet. When you tell us where the truck is, mention the road it sits on, so the route in for collection avoids that one posted span if it is close by.
Building crews, warehouses and El Paso County farms
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 647 of Socorro’s 4,653 jobs in construction and 588 in transportation and warehousing, with 236 in wholesale trade. Dump trucks, water trucks and flatbeds from building sites qualify alongside freight tractors, so tell us what the truck did day to day.
Around Socorro the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tallies 56 construction outfits beside 11 warehousing sites. A truck parked on a job site or at a warehouse dock can be collected from there; send the address and a name to ask for at the gate.
Across El Paso County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 581 farms, with cotton, cattle and honey at the top. Farm trucks and cattle haulers from those operations are part of what we buy, and a farm-plated truck needs its title and current registration ready like any other.
The questions we get asked in Socorro
- My dump truck is parked at a sand pit east of Socorro. Must it come off the pit before you collect? We load dump trucks straight off Socorro’s eastern pits. The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Pipeline Quarry and MTI Sandpit Cascade Division 7.4 miles east of town, and we collect from sites like those. Send the pit operator’s contact and the hours the Pipeline or MTI gate is staffed.
- I hauled fuel from the terminal south-east of town. Which papers matter for a tanker? The Energy Information Administration places the El Paso petroleum product terminal 5.8 miles south-east of Socorro. Have the title, the registration and any tank inspection paperwork you kept, plus photos of the tank and the cab.
- Our fleet runs a dozen trucks. Can all twelve go in one sale?A dozen trucks can go as a single sale. FMCSA’s carrier census shows local fleets of 42, 26 and 12 power units, and multi-truck sales are handled as one job. Send the VINs, the titles and where each truck is parked.
- My Socorro tractor’s title went missing before I listed it. What should the first call to you cover?Tell us when you first get in touch. A replacement title has to come from the state before the sale closes, and we will tell you what we need to see in the meantime.
