Tatum’s own carriers and their USDOT numbers
For a Tatum population of 1,435, FMCSA’s carrier census still shows 40 trucking outfits active under local USDOT numbers. If one of those carriers is yours, have the USDOT number ready when you contact us, along with the VIN, so we can match the truck to the registration on file.
Of those 40 Tatum carriers, 29 run intrastate and 11 cross state lines, and 12 operate as private fleets hauling their own goods, according to the same FMCSA census. A private-fleet truck that has only ever worked for one Tatum business usually has its service history in one place; pull it together before we talk.
New registrations have been steady and small: two new carriers in 2024 and two more in 2025, by FMCSA’s count of carrier start dates. If you started up in that window and are now selling the truck you began with, keep the purchase paperwork from that first year on hand.
Logs, poles and lumber
Pine logs, lowboys and general freight on Tatum’s roster
Thirteen Tatum carriers list logs, poles, beams and lumber as cargo in the FMCSA carrier census, and eleven list machinery and large objects. A log truck or a lowboy tractor is often parked at a yard or a job site rather than at a house, so tell us the exact spot and who can let us in.
General freight appears most often, with 23 of the town’s carriers naming it in FMCSA’s census, while nine haul utility loads. For a utility truck, photos of any bed, boom or body fitted behind the cab help us see the whole unit, not just the tractor.
Drivers working for Tatum carriers split between short and long hauls: FMCSA’s census counts 79 who stay inside a hundred-mile radius and 53 who travel beyond it. A truck on long runs may be away from town when you decide to sell; tell us where it will be parked and we plan the pickup there.
Big outfits and small ones on Tatum’s roster
Tatum’s biggest outfit fields 36 power units and 36 drivers in FMCSA’s carrier census, the next two 14 units with 8 drivers and 7 units with 6. If you are selling several trucks from one of these fleets at once, list each VIN separately so every truck is accounted for on its own title.
Sixteen Tatum carriers reported annual mileage in FMCSA’s carrier census, and the median works out to 18,750 miles per truck. Note the current odometer reading before you call; it is one of the first things we ask for, along with the VIN.
Sixty Tatum-registered trucks were stopped at roadside checks between August 2024 and August 2026; FMCSA roadside inspection records give them a median model year of 2015, with just under half at ten model years or older. Whatever the model year, send clear photos of the cab, frame and tires, and the inspection reports you have, so our picture of the truck matches yours.
LeTourneau rail yards and a gravel pit to the north-west
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the LeTourneau Southeast yard 11.9 miles north-west of Tatum and LeTourneau East 12.7 miles out in the same direction. A tractor that has shuttled loads to either yard can be collected wherever it is parked; there is no need to bring it into town first.
Further along that same north-west line, at 17.4 miles, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists A & T Sand and Gravel. Dump trucks and tractors serving a pit like that are often left on site between jobs, so confirm with the operator that we can reach the truck and give us a contact at the gate.
Titles in Texas are issued through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, and for Tatum the nearest office is the Rusk County Tax Office at 202 North Main, Henderson, 75652, about 19.8 miles away. It is one of the county tax assessor-collector offices the department uses, and that is where you apply for a copy of a lost title.
Before you go to Henderson, check that the name on the registration matches the name you will sign with, and bring any lien release if the truck was ever financed. With the title and registration in order, the rest of the sale is about the truck itself.
A quarter of Tatum’s paychecks come from building work
A dump truck, flatbed or equipment hauler that worked those jobs may still be parked at a contractor’s yard; tell us whose yard and how to reach the truck.
Across Rusk County, the USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,309 farms, with cattle, foliage plants and potted flowering plants at the top of the list. Livestock haulers and nursery delivery trucks from those operations are trucks we collect from the farm itself, so a farm address and a gate contact are all we need to get started.
The questions we get asked in Tatum
- Will you take a Tatum log truck with its bunks still fitted?Logs, poles, beams and lumber appear on 13 Tatum carrier filings in FMCSA’s census, and a log truck with bunks fitted is one we buy as it stands. Send the VIN, the odometer reading and photos of the truck with its trailer or bunks.
