Crushed-stone pits
Spicewood and the crushed-stone pits
From The Hills, a 9.7-mile run north-west reaches Spicewood Quarry, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration records as a crushed-stone site. A tandem dump or end-dump tractor that has hauled aggregate from that pit is the kind of truck we buy here, and it can stay parked at the yard or at your house while we arrange collection. Have the title, the registration and a few photos of the bed and cab ready before you call.
Further along the same bearing, the Highway 71 Quarry sits 16.7 miles out, again listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration as crushed stone. If your rock truck splits its days between the two pits, tell us which gate it usually sits behind, who holds the key, and whether a loader blocks it on weekdays, so the pickup is planned around the quarry’s hours rather than yours.
Cut stone and gravel
Cut blocks from Rock Quarry and Cordova
Two dimension-stone sites appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration listings near town: Rock Quarry, 17.4 miles north-east, and Cordova Quarry, 19.1 miles due north. Block and slab loads from operations like these ride on flatbeds and stake trucks, and a flatbed that has carried cut stone belongs on our list as much as a dump truck does. Send the VIN, the deck length and photos of the tie-down rails.
To the east, Texas Materials Hergotz Plant is a sand and gravel operation 20.8 miles from The Hills, per the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A truck that loaded there and came home to a hillside lot here can be collected where it sits; give us the street address and say whether a lowboy can turn in your road.
Product terminal, east side
Fuel tank units loading toward Austin
The Energy Information Administration lists a petroleum product terminal called AUSTIN PLANT 15 miles east of The Hills. Tank trucks and fuel tractors that load at a terminal like that are on the list of what we purchase, whether the tank stays mounted or the tractor is sold on its own. Note the tank’s capacity and compartment count when you write to us.
Keep any terminal loading records or annual tank test certificates you still hold with the title, since they show where the unit has worked. If you have none, describe the routes the truck ran out of the Austin Plant and we will ask about the rest.
Gate contracts
Supply runs to the Austin installations
Two military installations on Bureau of Transportation Statistics records sit east of The Hills: Army Futures Command at 12.9 miles and NG Camp Mabry at 13.5 miles. Box trucks, stake beds and service vehicles that have run supply or contract work to those gates are trucks we buy, and a contractor’s unit can be collected from a home yard here rather than near the base.
If the truck carries a contractor’s decals or base-access equipment, mention it at the start. Photos with the decals still on are fine; tell us whether you want them removed before collection or left for us to handle.
Cattle, corn and horses around The Hills
Around The Hills, ranches and fields add up to 870 farms across Travis County in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, where cattle, corn and equine lead the county’s list. Livestock haulers, grain trucks and the gooseneck rigs that move horses all come out of that mix, and a ranch truck sitting in a pasture can be collected from the gate.
For a farm-plated truck, check that the title is in the name of whoever is selling, since ranch vehicles are often titled to a family member or a partnership. Tell us whose name is on it in your first message and we will say what signature the transfer needs.
Trades on the hillside
Service trucks in a small hillside town
Employers located in The Hills accounted for 346 positions in 2023, by the count in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES). In a place that size the working trucks are mostly landscaping, utility and trade vehicles parked at a home or a small shop lot, which is exactly where we pick them up.
Have the registration, any service records you kept and photos of each side of the truck ready, plus a note on whether the driveway is gated.
The Ridgepoint tax office for a lost title
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles issues titles through county tax assessor-collector offices, and for The Hills that is the Travis County Tax Office at 2433 Ridgepoint Drive, Austin, 78754, 18.7 miles from town. A seller who cannot find the title starts the replacement there.
Bring photo identification and the VIN to the tax office, and let us know once you have applied, so the sale can be lined up while the copy is on its way.
The questions we get asked in The Hills
- I haul cattle and horses. Is a gooseneck livestock rig something you take?Cattle and equine both rank among Travis County’s top farm products in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and livestock rigs from those ranches are trucks we buy. Say whether the rig is titled to you, a relative or the ranch partnership.
