A plant a mile and a bit from Main Street
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Troup Plant, a mineral processing plant, 1.2 miles south of town. A dump truck or tractor that shuttles material in and out of a site that close may never have left the county, so tell us the gate or yard where it is parked and we will collect it there.
If your truck has spent its working life on plant ground, gather the plant’s own paperwork with the title: site safety sign-offs, gate passes, the service log your shop kept. Add photos of the bed or trailer, the cab and the VIN plate so the record and the pictures arrive together.
Rail freight seventeen miles north-west
A drive of 17.7 miles north-west takes a Troup tractor to the Tyler yard, which the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics map on their North American Rail Network. Day cabs that run freight between Troup and that yard can be picked up at either end; let us know which address is easier to reach.
For a tractor that splits its week between the yard and local customers, send the VIN, the odometer reading and a note on what it usually pulls. Those three answers let us ask about your truck rather than about its route.
Lumber, lowboys and dry freight out of Troup
On that same federal census, thirty-three of them list general freight, 18 list machinery and large objects, 16 list logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 8 list grain, feed and hay, so a log truck, a lowboy tractor or a hay hauler from this town is as familiar to us as a dry-van rig.
Of those 64, the federal census counts 49 that operate intrastate and 15 that cross state lines, while 31 run private fleets moving their own goods. A private-fleet truck often carries a company name on the door; tell us whose name is on the title so the paperwork lines up before pickup.
Troup’s biggest outfits on that census are small: one runs 11 power units with 9 drivers and two others each run 8 units with 8 drivers. Whether you are selling one truck or several from a yard of that size, list each VIN and where each one sits.
Drivers for Troup carriers are counted by FMCSA as 83 working within a 100-mile radius and 49 working past it. A short-radius truck tends to be parked at a home yard or farm each night, which is usually the simplest place for us to load it.
A typical Troup truck logged 26,509 miles a year, the median across the 18 carriers here that reported mileage to FMCSA. Write your own truck’s yearly mileage beside the title and registration details when you reach out, so the pickup crew knows the unit before they see it.
New registrations in Troup were thin on FMCSA’s census: 5 carriers started up in 2025 and none in 2024. If your authority is recent, have the operating paperwork ready with the title so both sets of names match.
Troup tractors stopped on Texas roads
FMCSA roadside inspection records from September 2024 to August 2026 cover 58 trucks run by Troup carriers, with a median model year of 2016 and 44.8 percent of them ten or more model years old. Older and newer units are both on the list of what we buy.
Hold on to the paper each roadside officer handed you after a stop. Together with the registration and a few clear photos of the cab, frame and tires, they give us a full picture of the unit before we arrive.
Cattle, horses and potted plants
Troup’s county counted 2,495 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, equine and potted flowering plants leading the list for Smith County. Stock trailers, hay rigs and nursery delivery trucks off those places can be collected right from the pasture gate or barn lot.
Around town, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 show 470 jobs, with manufacturing and wholesale trade each holding 63, or 13.4 percent. County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau adds 15 construction establishments, so flatbeds and dump trucks from building jobs are part of the local mix too.
Titles in Texas are handled by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles through county tax assessor-collector offices, and Troup’s is the Smith County Tax Office at 1517 West Front Street, Tyler, 75702, 17.9 miles away. That is where to go for a replacement copy if the title has gone missing.
Start that request before we schedule pickup, and keep the receipt from the tax office with the registration. If the title is in a business name, bring proof that you can sign for the company.
