Fresh produce, meat and refrigerated loads
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 517 active carriers based in Weslaco, and 180 of them list fresh produce as a cargo they haul. If your tractor has pulled a reefer out of the packing sheds around town, send a photo of the unit’s hour meter with the cab and VIN shots so we know what the trailer side of the job looked like.
Refrigerated food and meat each appear on 146 local carrier registrations, again by FMCSA’s carrier census. When a tractor has spent its years on cold-chain runs, the reefer may be sold with it or kept back; tell us at the start which one you mean, and list the trailer’s VIN separately if it is part of the sale.
General freight is the cargo named most often, on 326 Weslaco carriers in the federal census kept by FMCSA. A dry-van tractor or box truck from that work needs nothing special from you beyond the title in your name, the current Texas registration and a few clear photos of each side.
Quarry and gravel-pit dump trucks west of Weslaco
La Havana Pit, a crushed-stone quarry listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, lies about 14.6 miles north-west of Weslaco, and the same agency places Portable Crusher #2 about 23.5 miles out in that direction. If your dump truck is parked at one of those sites between loads, give us the gate contact and the hours the yard is open so collection can be planned with the operator.
Texan Pit, a sand and gravel operation about 19.7 miles west according to MSHA’s records, is another place a tandem or end dump from Weslaco may be parked between jobs. Tell us whether the bed and hoist are part of the sale, and add the body’s serial plate to the photos you send.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau counts 61 construction establishments in the area, and the LEHD job counts put construction at 572 jobs in Weslaco in 2023. Contractors who run their own dump or flatbed trucks can sell one unit and keep the rest; tell us which truck, and have its title and registration in hand.
Near the Donna ramp and the Harlingen yard
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Donna, TX - Rio Valley rail intermodal ramp about 6.5 miles west of Weslaco. A day cab that shuttles containers to and from that ramp can be collected at a drop yard near Donna as easily as from your driveway; send the address and the name of whoever holds the keys.
Some 17.6 miles east, the HARLINGEN rail yard appears on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and BTS. If the truck now sits in a Harlingen lot rather than in Weslaco, that is where we pick it up, so tell us the lot owner’s name in your first message.
Fuel for the Valley loads at the EDINBURG terminal 18 miles north-west and the HARLINGEN terminal 23.2 miles east, both petroleum product terminals in Energy Information Administration listings. If your tanker or tank-trailer tractor loads at either terminal, keep its tank test records with the title.
Short runs in the Valley and long ones out of it
Of Weslaco’s registered carriers, 390 operate intrastate and 125 interstate, per FMCSA’s census, with 88 more running private fleets for their own goods. An intrastate truck carries Texas registration only; an interstate one may also have IFTA decals and apportioned plates, and we will ask you which applies.
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 379 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 628 working beyond that radius. If your sleeper is out on a long haul when you contact us, tell us when it is due back to Hidalgo County and we will arrange the pickup for that date.
Across 150 reporting carriers, the median annual distance per truck is 50,000 miles in FMCSA’s census figures. Read the odometer and engine hours off the dash and include them with your first photos; those two readings shape most of the questions we ask next.
What is on the road around Weslaco
Between August 2024 and August 2026, roadside inspectors checked 627 trucks from Weslaco carriers, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give them a median model year of 2014, with 60.45 percent at ten years or older. Whatever the year of yours, the VIN tells us the model and engine, so put it at the top of your message.
The biggest fleets based here are modest: two run 37 power units each and the next runs 18, per FMCSA’s carrier census. FMCSA’s census also shows 29 new carriers registered in 2024 and 28 in 2025. A fleet owner selling several units can list every VIN in one message, and a one-truck operator needs only the one.
Cotton, corn, cattle and the county roads
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 2,045 farms in Hidalgo County, with cotton, corn and cattle as the leading products. A grain truck, cattle hauler or module truck kept on a farm outside Weslaco can be collected there; send a pin for the gate and say whether the field road is dry enough for a tow truck.
Of the 15 Weslaco bridges in the National Bridge Inventory, one carries a posted load limit and not one sits below 14 feet. Tell us if the truck is parked past that posted bridge, so the tow truck takes a route it can cross with a loaded unit behind it.
