Two fuel terminals south-east of town
Just 1.3 miles south-east of Cave Spring, the fuel racks named ROANOKE and ROANOKE 2 appear side by side on the Energy Information Administration terminal list. A tanker tractor that loads at those racks is one of the trucks we buy here, and it can stay where it is parked between runs while we arrange collection.
If your tractor pulled fuel out of those two terminals, write down the trailer type it was set up for and whether the wet kit is still fitted. Put that note in the same folder as the title and the registration card so one set of photos and one phone call cover everything.
Lime and stone
Hauling lime and stone off two nearby pits
Starkey Lime Plant, a crushed-stone quarry the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 1.8 miles south-east, and Roanoke Quarry, 2.9 miles east on the same federal register, both load dump trucks and end dumps within a short drive of Cave Spring. A dump body or a tri-axle that worked either pit is a truck we will look at.
Quarry trucks are often left at the pit or at a contractor’s yard rather than at home. Tell us which of the two sites the truck sits at, who holds the gate key, and send photos of the body, the hoist and the cab so we can plan the visit.
Asphalt and bulk liquids
Hot asphalt tankers on the north-east side
Associated Asphalt, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists as a liquid bulk terminal 3.3 miles north-east of Cave Spring, supplies the paving season around Roanoke County. Heated asphalt tankers and the tractors that pull them out of that site are part of what we collect locally.
Further out, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records Norfolk Southern TBT as a second liquid bulk terminal, 5.7 miles north-east. If your tractor shuttled between it and Associated Asphalt, keep its tank inspection paperwork and the last service invoice with the title; both answer questions before we ask them.
Day cabs serving the twin rail yards
According to the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the ROANOKE rail yard lies 3.7 miles north-east of Cave Spring and SOUTH ROANOKE sits 3.8 miles out in the same direction. Day cabs that run short hops to and from those yards fit the trucks we take on.
A yard tractor or day cab tied to rail work can be photographed where it is parked near either yard. Give us its VIN, the odometer reading and the address of the lot, and name the person who can open the lot for us.
Builders, wholesalers and cattle farms
Of the 11,512 jobs counted in Cave Spring for 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, 364 were in construction, 211 in wholesale trade and 149 in manufacturing. Each of those lines of work keeps flatbeds, box trucks and dump trucks on the roads between the quarries and the city.
Around Cave Spring the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tallies 70 construction establishments, from site crews to paving contractors. A contractor closing out a job or trimming a yard can sell one truck or several to us, and each one needs its own title in the name on the registration.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 254 farms across Roanoke County, with cattle, honey and goats as the top listings. A livestock hauler or farm truck parked in a barn lot outside Cave Spring is collected from that lot, so tell us whether the lane takes a rollback.
What roadside checks show here
Sixty-eight Cave Spring trucks went through roadside checks between 2 September 2024 and 21 August 2026, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give them a median model year of 2020, with 19.1 percent at ten or more years old. Whichever side of that spread your truck falls on, the same short list applies: title, registration, service records and clear photos.
If the title has gone missing, Virginia’s state title agency issues the replacement, and the request should be started before collection so the paperwork lines up with the pickup.
The questions we get asked in Cave Spring
- My tanker fills at the ROANOKE racks off the south-east side of Cave Spring; does it have to be driven somewhere for you? Those two terminals sit 1.3 miles south-east of Cave Spring on the Energy Information Administration’s list, and we collect the tractor from wherever it is parked near them. Send the parking spot and a name at the terminal who can walk us to the tractor.
- Our dump truck stays at Starkey Lime Plant between loads; is the pit itself a workable pickup spot?Starkey Lime Plant is 1.8 miles south-east of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration register, and a truck parked at the pit can be collected there once the operator agrees to let us in.
- The title for my Cave Spring rig is lost; which office reissues it?Cave Spring is in Roanoke County, so Virginia’s state title agency handles the replacement. Start that request first and tell us when it is on the way.
- My Roanoke County paving crew is selling a dump truck and a flatbed together; is a pair like that something you buy?County Business Patterns counts 70 construction establishments around Cave Spring, and we buy from firms selling one truck or several. Send each VIN with its title holder’s name.
