Aggregate south-west and east
Crushed stone a short haul from the Clinch
Tazewell County Quarry, a crushed-stone operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, lies 3.2 miles south-west of Cedar Bluff, and Pounding Mill Plant sits 3.6 miles east. Dump trucks and tri-axles that shuttle aggregate from either site are trucks we collect, and we come out to the quarry lot or your yard rather than asking you to bring it in.
If your dump truck splits its week between the Pounding Mill side and the south-west pit, write down both locations when you contact us and say where it will be parked on the day. A gate code, a contact at the scale house or a note about which lot it sits in saves a second trip for everyone.
Big Creek, Coal Creek and the Buchanan side
Heading north-west from town, Big Creek Surface is a coal mine 5.4 miles out according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and Coal Creek Prep Plant is 6.7 miles west. Further along, the Mine Safety and Health Administration places Buchanan Mine #1 13.3 miles west and Coronet Jewell Prep Plant #2 18.2 miles north-west of Cedar Bluff.
Coal haulers and end dumps that run between those mines and prep plants can be picked up at the mine road, a shop near the plant or your driveway. Have the VIN, the title and a set of photos showing the cab, the bed and the frame rails, and tell us whether the truck sits behind a mine gate so we can arrange access ahead of time.
Clinch valley carriers
FMCSA’s carrier census lists 49 active carriers based in Cedar Bluff; 31 of them run interstate, 18 stay intrastate, and 24 are private fleets moving their own goods. Whether your truck crosses into West Virginia and Kentucky or never leaves the county, the sale works the same way: we need the title, the registration and the truck’s location.
General freight is the cargo most often declared, by 27 Cedar Bluff carriers in the federal carrier census, while 11 list machinery and large objects, 10 list logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 7 list coal and coke. Log trucks, lowboys and coal tractors from those operations are all welcome; send a photo of the trailer coupling and any body or bed fitted to the chassis.
Among 20 local carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA, the median tractor logs 17,200 miles a year. Have the current odometer reading ready when you call, alongside the VIN, since those two figures are where our first questions begin.
From one-truck owners to a twenty-six unit outfit
The top fleet in Cedar Bluff runs 26 power units with 23 drivers, the next holds 9 trucks and 9 drivers, and a third lists 4 power units and 8 drivers, per FMCSA’s carrier census. Newcomers are few: the census shows 2 carriers registered in 2025 and 1 in 2024.
A fleet selling several units at once should send a list with each VIN, unit number and parking location, so we can plan the collections around the yard. A single owner-operator needs only the one truck’s title, registration and photos, and can tell us whether the truck is at home or at a shop in Richlands or Tazewell.
A coal-country rail yard and a tank terminal south-east
Up the north-west road toward Buchanan County, the DISMAL rail yard sits 19.4 miles from Cedar Bluff on the North American Rail Network that the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics maintain. Trucks that meet coal or freight at that yard can be collected near the rail siding or wherever you keep them between loads.
South-east of town, Heniff Transportation operates a liquid bulk terminal 22.9 miles away, in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics’ terminal listings. If your tractor has pulled tank trailers out of that terminal, say whether the trailer is part of the sale and send photos of both units separately.
Hay ground and dairies
Beef herds, dairy barns and corn ground around Cedar Bluff
Around Cedar Bluff and the rest of Tazewell County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 500 farms, with cattle, milk and corn as the top products. Livestock haulers, milk tankers and grain trucks from those farms are trucks we buy, and we collect them from the barn lot or field road where they are parked.
Farm trucks often carry farm-use tags rather than full commercial plates, so tell us which registration the truck has and whose name is on the title. If the title is in a family member’s name or an estate, mention it at the start so the transfer documents are ready when we arrive.
The Tazewell Avenue service center up the road
A missing title in Cedar Bluff is replaced through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, which issues titles at its DMV Customer Service Centers and DMV Select offices. For Cedar Bluff owners that means a 13.4-mile drive east to DMV Customer Service Center - Tazewell at 1151 Tazewell Avenue, Tazewell, 24651.
Bring the registration card, your ID and the VIN to that office and request a replacement before the pickup date; the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles also explains the replacement process on its website. With the 436 jobs the Census Bureau’s LEHD counts placed in Cedar Bluff in 2023, a midweek trip to Tazewell Avenue is usually the simplest way to get the title in hand.
