Prep plants north-east
Coal plants just outside Coeburn
Two coal sites lie within about three miles of the town centre: the Toms Creek Complex preparation plant, 2.1 miles north-east, and the Gobco #15 mine, 3.2 miles north, both recorded by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A truck that hauls between them may be parked at a plant gate or a pit rather than in Coeburn itself, so give us the site and the road it sits on and we will collect it there.
Further out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Carico Ridge Strip is 7.6 miles north-east and the Savage Blending Terminal, another preparation plant, is 7.7 miles east. If your tri-axle or end-dump has been hauling on that eastern side, photograph the bed, the cab and the data plate, and have the title in hand before we schedule the visit.
Of the trucking firms on Coeburn’s FMCSA carrier census roll, seven name coal and coke among the loads they carry from this corner of Wise County. Owners of those trucks should note the VIN and the plate number before calling, since that is the first thing we will ask.
Rail yards and stone quarries either side of town
Coeburn falls between two rail yards on the North American Rail Network map from the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics: Norton, 8.7 miles toward the west, and Dante, 9.8 miles toward the east. Trucks that shuttle loads to either siding can be picked up at the yard lot if you have permission for us to enter; tell us who to speak to on site.
Stone is the other bulk load nearby. Norton Quarry, 10.7 miles west, and the Castlewood quarry, 11 miles south-east, both appear as crushed-stone operations in Mine Safety and Health Administration records. A dump truck or lowboy tractor working those pits can be sold from wherever it is parked, as long as the registration and title match the name on your paperwork.
General freight, coal and timber out of Coeburn
General freight is listed by 13 of the 27 active Coeburn carriers that FMCSA’s carrier census records, nearly half the town’s trucking firms. Six carry logs, poles, beams or lumber and six carry machinery or large objects, the same census shows. If your trailer goes with the tractor, say so and send a photo of each.
Interstate authority is held by 16 of those carriers while 11 run intrastate only, according to the same federal census, and 11 are private fleets moving their own goods. A private-fleet owner selling one unit should bring the business name exactly as it appears on the title.
One new carrier registered in Coeburn in 2024 and another in 2025, FMCSA’s records show. If your operation is that young, a recent bill of sale and the current registration let us match the truck to you at collection.
Small fleets, mostly close to home
No Coeburn fleet in FMCSA’s carrier census tops a dozen tractors: the top three field 11, 10 and 9 power units, staffed by 10, 10 and 6 drivers respectively. An owner selling several trucks from a yard of that size can list them all in one call; we will look at each by VIN and photos and arrange a single trip.
Sixty-one drivers at Coeburn carriers work within 100 miles of base, set against 33 who go further, in the federal carrier census. That spread means your truck might be in Wise County or out on a long haul when you decide to sell, so tell us where it will be on the day it is free.
Nine local carriers reported annual mileage to FMCSA, and their median truck covers 10,000 miles a year. Read the odometer and include a photo of it with your other pictures.
What Coeburn’s inspected tractors were built in
Forty Coeburn-registered trucks were pulled in for roadside checks from late 2024 to mid-2026, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give their median model year as 2009.5. Whatever the year of yours, we buy it; state the model year and the engine on the first call.
Three in four of those inspected trucks, 75 percent in the roadside inspection records, carry model years ten or more years old. If you kept the inspection reports from stops like these, put them with the title; they give us the truck’s history in its own documents.
Norton’s DMV center for a duplicate Coeburn title
Duplicate titles in this state come from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, which handles them through its DMV Customer Service Centers and DMV Select offices. The nearest one listed by the agency is the DMV Customer Service Center - Norton at 1729 Park Avenue S.W., Norton, 24273, about 9.8 miles from Coeburn.
If the title is missing, start the replacement at that Norton counter before we arrange collection, and bring your registration and identification. Where a lender still holds a lien, have the release letter ready so the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles can issue a clear title in your name.
Town payrolls and pastures
Jobs, builders and farms in the Coeburn area
Coeburn held 679 jobs in 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, while six building contractors appear for the area in County Business Patterns. Builders’ dump trucks and service bodies are welcome; send the body type and a photo from each side.
Wise County had 120 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, goats and honey as its leading products. A livestock hauler or a farm truck with a grain or stock body can be collected at the farm gate, so give us directions if the lane is unmarked.
