Prince Edward County

A granite quarry four miles out, on the Luck Stone books

The node attached to this place is the Prince Edward Plant, a crushed granite quarry under Luck Stone Corporation with nine people on the federal register, its coordinate 4.30 miles from the Farmville centroid.

It carries a state aggregate approval under quarry code 05_3063_Q, coarse and fine both approved in 2017, over biotite granite. The register names this node’s own place and the operator agrees, which is the basis of the join; the list holds no coordinates, so a match on town alone would attach somebody else’s approval.

Nine people is a little under the median of eleven across the 170 Virginia rows stating a headcount. A large operator does not imply a large site, and the record says so plainly here.

The roads out

Only four restricted crossings, and one of them barely takes a truck at all

Those nine people load onto a network that is quiet until it is not. Within ten miles the inventory records 71 structures; four are coded posted for load and four are rated below legal loads, 5.6%, with the two fields agreeing exactly.

The nearest of the four is 7.57 miles away, which is the fourth furthest of the 90 nodes measured in this state — so on most days none of this is in the way at all.

But the crossing itself is severe. Its rating is 11.8 metric tonnes, about 13.0 US tons, which is among the tightest measured anywhere in this state and sits barely above the 11.0 tonnes an empty tandem already weighs. It admits about 0.8 tonnes of granite — against the roughly twenty-five a legal 80,000 lb truck carries. In practice that is a crossing you go round rather than one you cross light.

Virginia paperwork

Three salvage tests in one chapter, and a rebuilt test that runs inside out

Beyond the roads, the title regime follows the truck rather than the route, and Virginia writes it unusually. Va. Code § 46.2-1600 sets three salvage thresholds where most states set one. A late model vehicle is salvage where estimated repair would exceed its actual cash value less its current salvage value. A recovered stolen vehicle acquired by an insurer is salvage above seventy-five per cent of actual cash value. A vehicle is nonrepairable above ninety per cent of its value before the damage.

Subtracting the salvage value makes the base smaller, so that first test is easier to trip rather than harder — the opposite of what comparing the bare percentages suggests. The rebuilt test then runs inside out: it measures the repair cost excluding damage to the engine, transmission or drive axle assembly, the exact inverse of Oklahoma, which counts only the suspension, motor, transmission, frame and structural components.

Late model is the current model year and the five preceding, or any vehicle whose value before the damage met the floor the section names, so an older truck outside that limb sits outside the salvage regime altogether. The repair figure also excludes towing, storage, a temporary replacement and diminished-value compensation — storage and diminished value being two items no other state on file names.

Weight is set at § 46.2-1122 and § 46.2-1127 — 20,000 lb on a single axle, 34,000 lb on a tandem and 80,000 lb gross — and the interstate limits are the same as the highway limits, so there is no inversion here to catch a driver out at the ramp.

What we buy here

The offer does not sort by truck type

Those rules apply to whatever you drive, and the offer does not sort by type either. Tandems and tri-axles off the granite work that Prince Edward County runs on, including whatever loads 4.30 miles out at the Luck Stone pit. Day cabs and road tractors on the runs west and east. Flatbeds, box trucks, straight trucks and rollbacks out of the trades, plus service bodies and the crew pickups that go with them.

Whatever you drive, the offer doesn’t change. We buy all of them.

Getting it to us is the part that flexes. We can come to you and drive it away, or come and tow it; we can also buy it remotely and arrange the tow with nobody visiting at all, and you are welcome to bring it here instead.

We buy complete trucks. If the engine, transmission, doors, rear ends, drive shafts, wheels or anything under the hood have been removed, we can’t buy it. Small things — a missing bumper — are fine.

Straight answers

The questions we get asked in Farmville

  • Does it have to run?No. It does have to be complete — if the engine, transmission, doors, rear ends, drive shafts, wheels or anything under the hood have been removed, we can’t buy it. Rust is not a disqualifier.
  • There is one bridge this truck could never use loaded. That will be the 11.8-tonne crossing 7.57 miles out, which admits about eight hundred kilos of stone over an empty tandem. Going round it is the normal answer here and always has been. It tells us something about the routes the truck ran; it does not change whether we buy it.
  • Do you come out to Prince Edward County? We do. We can also buy it remotely and arrange the tow if that suits you better — the drive is our problem either way.
  • How am I paid?Cash or electronic payment. That is the whole list.
  • What about the title? We need one unless the truck is old enough that it never had one. A lost title has a counter replacement; where none exists there is a bonded route.

Why people call

None of those questions is why the phone rings. Retiring. A medical that went the wrong way. A hauling contract that finished. A tandem standing through a Prince Edward County winter 4.30 miles from the Luck Stone gate, insurance going out on something that is not turning a wheel.

Most of those aren’t happy reasons, and we don’t treat them like they are. Somebody wants a straight answer and the truck gone. That’s what we’re here for.

Virginia title rules read from the Code of Virginia in August 2026 — verify with Virginia DMV before acting on them. Salvage, nonrepairable and rebuilt definitions at Va. Code § 46.2-1600; weight limits at § 46.2-1122 and § 46.2-1127. Bridge figures come from the FHWA National Bridge Inventory 2025 files and are read on item 70 rather than item 41, because the two agree on only 68% of this state’s posted structures. A commercial floor is a MINIMUM inside a ten-mile circle: at 64.1% of the nodes measured in this work a tighter crossing lies between ten miles and twenty, so read it as an upper bound. The 11.8-tonne floor here is shared with four other Virginia nodes and one is tighter still at 11.1, so it is stated as among the tightest rather than as the tightest. Whether Virginia has any seasonal or frost provision was not determined for this node’s research batch and none is stated here. Information, not legal advice.
