Aggregate haulers between the lake and two stone pits
Aggregate leaves Charlottesville Plant, which sits 7.4 miles up the road to the north-west and appears among crushed-stone quarries in Mine Safety and Health Administration records. A tri-axle dump or a tractor with an end-dump trailer that hauls aggregate from there can be collected from your lot by the lake or from a yard near the plant gate; tell us which one when you get in touch.
Red Hill Quarry, another crushed-stone operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, lies 13.7 miles west. If your dump truck splits its loads between Red Hill and the Charlottesville site, have the title in hand and photograph the bed, the hoist and the cab before you call, so we see the whole truck from the start.
Slate and minerals
James River slate and the Sansom mill
South of the lake by 14.1 miles, James River Slate Company Inc works a dimension-stone quarry listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Cut stone travels on flatbeds and boom trucks, and if yours has hauled slate out of that quarry, include photos of the deck, the tie-downs and any crane along with the VIN.
R. E. Sansom Mine & Mill, an industrial-mineral mine 13.9 miles north-east of Lake Monticello according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, rounds out the stone sites around the county. A truck that served the mill can stay where it is parked out that way; give us the address and the name of whoever can open the gate.
Sidings north-west at East Charlottesville and south at Strathmore
Two yards on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics sit within a 14-mile drive: East Charlottesville, 10.8 miles north-west, and Strathmore, 13.4 miles south. Day cabs and straight trucks that shuttle freight between those sidings and Fluvanna County customers are trucks we buy.
If your tractor worked Strathmore to the south and now sits idle in a Lake Monticello driveway, collection happens at the house. Have the Virginia registration and any service records together, and send the odometer reading with the VIN so we can start on the right truck.
Grain trucks and stock trailers on Fluvanna farm roads
Fluvanna County’s 289 farms lean on cattle first, then soybeans and corn, according to USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Livestock haulers, grain trucks and flatbeds that carry hay bales all come out of that kind of farming, and we purchase each of them.
A grain truck parked behind a barn on a county farm road can be picked up right where it stands. Tell us whether a tow vehicle can reach it on a gravel lane, and whether the title is in the farm’s name or your own; the name on the title is the person who signs.
Construction trades around the lake
Of the 1,008 jobs the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place in Lake Monticello for 2023, builders and trades hold 55, or 5.5 percent. A contractor’s dump truck, stake-bed or box truck can be sold to us from the job site or the shop.
In its own tally, County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau lists 54 construction establishments. If your business is one of them and the truck is titled to the company, have whoever is authorised to sign for the business ready, along with the registration card.
Title, registration and photos before a lakeside pickup
Rivanna Station, a military installation listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics 16.9 miles north of Lake Monticello, marks the far edge of the area we cover from here. Wherever the truck sits between there and Strathmore, the steps are the same: the title, the registration, and clear photos of every side.
When a title has gone missing, Virginia’s title agency issues the replacement, so put that request in before you contact us. Once the duplicate is in hand, send it with your photos and the VIN, and we arrange collection at the lake, the quarry or the farm.
The questions we get asked in Lake Monticello
- Our tri-axle sits at the Charlottesville Plant quarry gate. Does it have to come home to the lake first?Charlottesville Plant is 7.4 miles north-west of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect from there directly. Give us the site contact so the quarry knows we are coming.
- Will you take a soybean or cattle truck off a Fluvanna County farm?Fluvanna County has 289 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, mostly cattle, soybeans and corn, and the grain trucks and livestock haulers they use are trucks we purchase. Have the title ready and tell us whose name is on it.
- The paper title for the dump truck in my Fluvanna County shed is nowhere to be found; who issues a duplicate?Owners around Lake Monticello request a duplicate from Virginia’s title agency. Start that request first, then contact us with the VIN and photos while it is on the way.
