Two petroleum terminals just north of town
The Energy Information Administration places the Fairfax Blending Terminal and a second terminal listed simply as Fairfax 1.2 miles north of Long Branch, both classed as petroleum product terminals. If your tractor pulled a tanker in and out of those gates, note which of the two it loaded at when you first get in touch with us.
A truck that has hauled fuel near Long Branch often carries hazmat placards, tank inspection stickers and a trailer that may or may not be part of the sale. Tell us up front whether the tank goes with the tractor, and photograph the placard holders, the fifth wheel and the cab so the pictures match your description.
Keep the Virginia title and the current registration together with any tank test reports you hold. Those three documents answer most of what we ask about a fuel tractor from the Fairfax terminals.
Eastward
A rail-side tank terminal and two gated sites to the east
East of town, 7.9 miles out, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records Norfolk Southern TBT as a liquid bulk terminal. A tanker or tractor that shuttled between that rail-side terminal and the Fairfax blending yards may be sitting at either end, and we collect from whichever lot it is on.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics also lists Mark Center, 8.2 miles east, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency site, 9.3 miles east, as military installations. If your truck is parked anywhere with gated or badged access, give us the name of someone who can let us in, and we will arrange the visit around that person.
Quarries ten and fourteen miles out
According to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the GRAHAM-VIRGINIA crushed-stone quarry lies 10 miles south of Long Branch, and Chantilly Crushed Stone Incorporated operates another 13.6 miles to the west. Tri-axle dumps, tractors with end-dump trailers and water trucks are the sort of equipment those quarry roads see.
For a dump truck that has run stone out of Chantilly or the Graham quarry, send the VIN, a photo of the body and hoist, and a shot of the data plate. If the truck is still parked on quarry property, tell us which entrance to use.
Builders and contractor yards around Long Branch
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES) put 626 jobs in Long Branch in 2023, with 122 of them, or 19.5 percent, in construction. Box trucks, flatbeds, utility bodies and small dumps are the trucks a construction workforce of that size keeps in driveways and contractor yards around Fairfax County.
If a contractor’s truck in Long Branch is titled to a business rather than to you personally, have the person who signs for that business available when we call. A company truck sells the same way a personal one does once the right signature is on the title.
Stables, potted plants and beehives around the county
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counted 77 farms in Fairfax County, with equine operations, potted flowering plants and honey as the leading products. A stake-bed, a horse-hauling rig or a nursery delivery truck from one of those farms is a commercial vehicle we will look at.
Farm trucks in the county are often parked in a barn or behind a greenhouse rather than on a paved lot. Tell us how the truck is reached, whether a gate needs opening, and whether the ground is firm enough for a tow truck to get close.
Title, registration and photos for a Long Branch pickup
Gather the Virginia title, the registration card, any service records and a set of clear photos: front, rear, both sides, cab interior and the odometer. With those in hand, the questions we still need to ask about a truck parked in Long Branch are few.
If the title is missing, Virginia’s title agency is the office that issues a replacement, and we can talk through the timing with you before the pickup is scheduled. A lien on the title is something to mention at the outset, together with the lender’s name.

Do I have to bring the dump truck back to Long Branch?Chantilly Crushed Stone Incorporated is 13.6 miles west of Long Branch on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s records, and the truck can stay there or wherever else it is parked. Tell us the address and who can give us access.

Is that the kind of vehicle you buy?Equine operations lead the 77 Fairfax County farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and horse-hauling and farm trucks from them are commercial vehicles we purchase. A VIN and four outside photos of the stock trailer or bed are enough for a first conversation.
