Up the peninsula
Fuel terminals at Newington and the Potomac shore
Heading north off the neck, the Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals at Newington: Newington 2 at 5.8 miles and Newington at 6 miles. A tractor that has pulled tank trailers out of those gates is one we will look at, and so is the trailer if you own it too. Tell us which of the two racks the rig loaded at and whether the tank is yours or leased; a leased tank stays with its owner.
Farther up, at 10.7 miles north, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records Norfolk Southern TBT as a liquid bulk terminal. If your truck shuttled product between that yard and the Newington racks, keep the hazmat placard paperwork and any tank test certificates with the title. Send photos of the tank barrel, the valves and the cab plate with the VIN, ahead of any trip out to Mason Neck.
Graham-Virginia quarry and the Stafford pit
Five and a third miles west of Mason Neck, the Mine Safety and Health Administration has Graham-Virginia on file as a crushed-stone quarry. Dump trucks and tri-axles that haul aggregate out of a pit like that are a regular part of what we buy. Send a shot of the bed, the hoist and the tag axle along with the door sticker, so the axle count is clear from the start.
A second crushed-stone operation, the Stafford quarry, sits 19.5 miles south-west in the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s records. If your dump truck splits its week between Graham-Virginia and Stafford, we collect from whichever yard it is parked at on the day. Give us the gate address and a contact at the scale house if the truck sits inside a quarry fence.
Fort Belvoir, Mark Center and the contractors who serve them
Fort Belvoir lies 4.3 miles north and Mark Center 12.7 miles north, both counted as military installations by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Box trucks, flatbeds and service bodies that work around federal sites like these often carry gate passes or base decals. Remove any credentials before pickup and tell us if the truck is parked behind a security gate, so the driver we send can be cleared ahead of time.
Contractor equipment is common along this stretch: County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau puts 163 construction establishments in the area beside only 4 in warehousing. A crew-cab dump, a stake-bed or a utility-body pickup from one of those outfits is the kind of truck that sells to us easily. Have the registration card and the plate status ready, and let us know whether the company or an individual owns it.
Jobs, farms and the trucks behind them on the neck
For 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts show 592 jobs located in Mason Neck, a small base for a town of about two thousand residents. Many trucks registered here therefore belong to owner-operators or small firms rather than large terminals. If the title is in a business name, bring a document showing you can sign for that business.
Across Fairfax County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture lists 77 farms, with equine operations, potted flowering plants and honey at the top of the list. Horse haulers, stake-bed trucks used for nursery stock and light delivery trucks come out of that kind of farming. Tell us whether the truck has a dovetail, a liftgate or a horse box on the back, since each changes how we load it.
What gets inspected
Send the model year and the engine make with your photos so we can line the truck up against its build sheet.
Older and newer units both fit what we purchase, so list the year honestly and include the last inspection sticker if one is on the windshield. Service invoices, if you kept them, belong in the same folder as the title.
Replacing a Virginia title at Gunston Plaza in Lorton
A missing title in this part of Virginia goes through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, which handles replacements at its DMV Customer Service Centers and DMV Select offices. The closest is DMV Customer Service Center - Lorton, at 7714 Gunston Plaza, Lorton, 22079, 4.2 miles from Mason Neck. Apply for the duplicate there before we schedule a pickup, since the truck cannot change hands without it.
If a lender still holds a lien, ask the bank for its release letter and carry it to the Lorton office with your application. When the duplicate arrives, check that the VIN on it matches the plate on the door jamb and the frame stamp, then photograph the front of the title for us.
