The Fairfax terminals just south-west
The Energy Information Administration places the FAIRFAX petroleum product terminal 2.4 miles south-west of Merrifield, with the FAIRFAX BLENDING TERMINAL just beyond it at 2.5 miles. If your tractor has pulled a fuel trailer in and out of those gates, tell us whether the trailer is part of the sale or stays behind, and send the VIN for each unit you want us to look at.
A tanker that loads off the Fairfax rack usually overnights in a yard close by rather than at the owner’s house. Give us the yard’s street address and the name of whoever holds the gate key, and the collection gets planned around that lot instead of around your driveway.
Photograph any hazmat or tank inspection paperwork you kept for the tank trailer along with the title. Those sheets tell us what the unit hauled and when it was last checked, which saves a round of questions.
Norfolk Southern TBT and the run south-east
Norfolk Southern TBT, a liquid bulk terminal, is listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics about 7.7 miles south-east of town. Tank trailers and the day cabs that pull them from a liquid bulk site like that one are trucks we buy from their owners.
If your rig works the TBT side rather than the Fairfax racks, say which site it runs from when you first write to us. Photos of the cab, the fifth wheel, the tires and the data plate on the trailer let us match the unit to what you describe.
Aggregate pits south and west of the Beltway towns
Two crushed-stone quarries appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records within reach: GRAHAM-VIRGINIA, 12.9 miles to the south, and Chantilly Crushed Stone Incorporated, 14.1 miles to the west. Tri-axle dumps and end-dump trailers hauling aggregate out of either pit are trucks we collect.
A dump truck that runs quarry loads often stays parked at the pit or a contractor’s yard between jobs. Tell us which side of Merrifield it sits on, south toward Graham-Virginia or west toward Chantilly, and whether a loader or lowboy would be needed to reach it.
Have the title, the current registration card and any body or hoist service records together before you call. A photo of the bed and the tailgate alongside the cab gives a complete picture of a dump unit.
Contractors, wholesalers and the trucks they retire
Construction accounts for 1,363 of the 23,799 jobs counted in Merrifield for 2023 in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, about 5.7 percent. Contractors on those crews run flatbeds, stake bodies and dump trucks, and an owner retiring one from a job site can sell it to us where it stands.
Wholesale trade adds 506 jobs and manufacturing 286, according to that same LEHD tally, with transportation and warehousing at 226. Box trucks and straight trucks from wholesale delivery routes are on our list, and a single delivery truck is as welcome as a whole yard of them.
If you own several units across these trades, list them by VIN with the location of each. We can set a pickup for every address rather than asking you to gather them in one place.
Barn trucks, nursery flatbeds and honey haulers
Fairfax County has 77 farms on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and the top three kinds are horse operations, growers of potted flowering plants, and beekeepers selling honey. Horse haulers, stake-bed trucks for nursery stock and small farm flatbeds all fit what we buy.
A farm truck may sit in a barn or behind a greenhouse for most of the year. Send a photo of where it is parked and note any soft ground or tight gates, and keep the title and registration in the cab or in hand for collection day.
DARPA and the Air Force Office to the east
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research are each listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics 7.1 miles east of Merrifield. Support and service trucks working around federal sites like those need the same paperwork as any other: title in the seller’s name and a registration that matches the VIN.
If your truck is parked on or near a secured site, tell us the access rules before collection. Arranging a visitor pass or a meeting point at the gate in advance keeps the pickup simple.
The questions we get asked in Merrifield
- Can my fuel tanker stay in its yard near the Fairfax Blending Terminal until pickup? The Energy Information Administration lists the blending terminal 2.5 miles south-west of Merrifield, and we collect from the lot where your tanker already sits. Pass along the lot’s street address plus the phone number of whoever unlocks it.
- Is a tri-axle dump that hauls stone from Chantilly something you take?Chantilly Crushed Stone Incorporated is 14.1 miles west of town on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and dump trucks hauling from pits like it are part of what we buy. Have the title and registration ready, plus photos of the bed and cab.
- What should a Fairfax County farm owner have ready to sell a farm truck? With 77 farms in the county on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, most farm trucks here sit on private ground, so give us the farm’s address and a note on gate or field access. Keep the title in your name and the registration that matches the VIN.
