Albemarle County
Two register entries fit this quarry and one of them is marked closed
The node attached to this place is a granite quarry run by Luck Stone Corporation with eighteen people on the federal register, its coordinate 1.64 miles from the centroid. Its name in the record is the Charlottesville Plant.
The state aggregate approved list carries two candidate entries for it. One is Luck Stone — Charlottesville, coarse aggregate approved in 2014 and fine in 2018, over greenstone. The other names this place and is marked currently closed, approved in 2015 and 2018. The node’s own NAME matches the first; its CITY matches the second.
So we join neither and report both. That is the only honest answer available: one Luck Stone source at this location is on the approved list and one is recorded as out of use, and nothing in the data says which of them this row is.
A field nothing else carries
This is the only place in the whole of this work where a source is recorded as closed
That closure mark is worth pausing on, because no other file in this project carries the information at all. The node list records employment, operator and commodity; it says nothing whatever about whether a pit is still working.
It is the first time a register has told this project that a source is out of use, and it exposes something the rest of the data quietly assumes. Every other quarry page in this state describes an operation in the present tense on the strength of a headcount and a commodity code, neither of which would change the day a pit stopped.
We are not claiming this one has stopped — the closed entry may be the other source entirely. We are saying that here, uniquely, the possibility is on the record rather than invisible, and a page that flattened that into "an operating quarry" would be asserting the very thing the data declines to. The pit coordinate sits 1.64 miles from the middle of this place, and the two Luck Stone Corporation entries carry approval years of 2014, 2015 and 2018 between them in Albemarle County.
The roads out
Six restricted crossings, none of them close and none of them severe
Whichever entry belongs to it, the roads around this coordinate are measured the same way. Within ten miles the inventory records 147 structures; six are coded posted for load and six are rated below legal loads, 4.1%, with the two fields agreeing exactly.
The nearest sits 4.90 miles out. Its rating is 20.9 metric tonnes, about 23.0 US tons, which admits roughly 9.9 tonnes of granite over the 11.0 an empty tandem already weighs — a comfortable payload by this state’s standards, where the median circle admits closer to five.
Few restrictions, none on the doorstep, and a generous cap when one is reached. On the road measurements this is an easy place to run a loaded truck out of.
Virginia paperwork
Three salvage tests in one chapter, and a rebuilt test that runs inside out
Beyond the roads, the title regime follows the truck rather than the route, and Virginia writes it unusually. Va. Code § 46.2-1600 sets three salvage thresholds where most states set one. A late model vehicle is salvage where estimated repair would exceed its actual cash value less its current salvage value. A recovered stolen vehicle acquired by an insurer is salvage above seventy-five per cent of actual cash value. A vehicle is nonrepairable above ninety per cent of its value before the damage.
Subtracting the salvage value makes the base smaller, so that first test is easier to trip rather than harder — the opposite of what comparing the bare percentages suggests. The rebuilt test then runs inside out: it measures the repair cost excluding damage to the engine, transmission or drive axle assembly, the exact inverse of Oklahoma, which counts only the suspension, motor, transmission, frame and structural components.
Late model is the current model year and the five preceding, or any vehicle whose value before the damage met the floor the section names, so an older truck outside that limb sits outside the salvage regime altogether. The repair figure also excludes towing, storage, a temporary replacement and diminished-value compensation — storage and diminished value being two items no other state on file names.
Weight is set at § 46.2-1122 and § 46.2-1127 — 20,000 lb on a single axle, 34,000 lb on a tandem and 80,000 lb gross — and the interstate limits are the same as the highway limits, so there is no inversion here to catch a driver out at the ramp.
What we buy here
The offer does not sort by truck type
Those rules apply to whatever you drive, and the offer does not sort by type either. Tandems and tri-axles off the granite work that Albemarle County runs on, including whatever loads 1.64 miles out at the Luck Stone Corporation pit. Day cabs and road tractors on the runs into the city. Flatbeds, box trucks, straight trucks and rollbacks out of the trades, plus service bodies and the crew pickups that go with them.
Whatever you drive, the offer doesn’t change. We buy all of them.
Getting it to us is the part that flexes. We can come to you and drive it away, or come and tow it; we can also buy it remotely and arrange the tow with nobody visiting at all, and you are welcome to bring it here instead.
We buy complete trucks. If the engine, transmission, doors, rear ends, drive shafts, wheels or anything under the hood have been removed, we can’t buy it. Small things — a missing bumper — are fine.
Straight answers
The questions we get asked in Rivanna
- Does it have to run?No. It does have to be complete — if the engine, transmission, doors, rear ends, drive shafts, wheels or anything under the hood have been removed, we can’t buy it. Rust is not a disqualifier.
- That pit shut years ago. Why is it on your page?Because the record is genuinely ambiguous and we would rather show you that than tidy it. The approved list carries two Luck Stone Corporation entries for this location, one active and one marked currently closed, and the node’s name matches one while its town matches the other. We report both and claim neither.
- Do you come out to Albemarle County? We do. We can also buy it remotely and arrange the tow if that suits you better — the drive is our problem either way.
- How am I paid?Cash or electronic payment. That is the whole list.
- What about the title? We need one unless the truck is old enough that it never had one. A lost title has a counter replacement; where none exists there is a bonded route.
Why people call
None of those questions is why the phone rings. Retiring. A medical that went the wrong way. A hauling contract that finished — or a pit that stopped. A tandem standing out an Albemarle County winter 1.64 miles from the Luck Stone Corporation gate, insurance going out on something that is not turning a wheel.
Most of those aren’t happy reasons, and we don’t treat them like they are. Somebody wants a straight answer and the truck gone. That’s what we’re here for.
Virginia title rules read from the Code of Virginia in August 2026 — verify with Virginia DMV before acting on them. Salvage, nonrepairable and rebuilt definitions at Va. Code § 46.2-1600; weight limits at § 46.2-1122 and § 46.2-1127. Bridge figures come from the FHWA National Bridge Inventory 2025 files and are read on item 70 rather than item 41, because the two agree on only 68% of this state’s posted structures. A commercial floor is a MINIMUM inside a ten-mile circle: at 64.1% of the nodes measured in this work a tighter crossing lies between ten miles and twenty, so read it as an upper bound. The state aggregate approved list carries TWO candidate entries for this node, one of them marked CURRENTLY CLOSED; the node’s name matches one and its town matches the other, so NEITHER is joined and both are reported. No approval is claimed and no assertion is made about whether this source is working. Whether Virginia has any seasonal or frost provision was not determined for this node’s research batch and none is stated here. Information, not legal advice.
