Dump trucks and the Spotsylvania Plant quarry
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Spotsylvania Plant, a crushed-stone quarry, just 2.4 miles north-east of the courthouse. A tri-axle or quad dump that loads stone there is often parked within sight of the scale house between runs, so tell us whether it sits at your home, a yard on the county roads or at the quarry gate, and who can let us in.
Farther out, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records the STAFFORD crushed-stone quarry 20.8 miles north-east and Virginia Black Granite Inc., a dimension-stone quarry, 25 miles to the west. If your dump truck splits its week between these pits, photograph the bed, the tailgate and the cab, and keep the title and the Virginia registration card together so the paperwork is ready when we arrive.
Gravel pits east and south-east toward Caroline
Woodford-VA Sand & Gravel lies 14.7 miles east of town and the Caroline Plant 19.3 miles south-east, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list of sand and gravel operations. Trucks that haul aggregate out of those two pits can be collected wherever they finish the day, whether that is at the pit, on a job site or back in Spotsylvania County.
County Business Patterns, kept by the Census Bureau, counts 103 construction establishments in the area, and LEHD job counts from the Census Bureau put 84 construction jobs in town in 2023, 4.7 percent of 1,790. For a dump or flatbed tied to that site work, have the title in the name of whoever is signing, plus any service records, before you call.
Carriers based around the courthouse
Of the 135 active carriers that FMCSA’s carrier census shows here, 88 haul general freight, 27 carry logs, poles, beams and lumber, 27 move motor vehicles and 26 handle dry bulk commodities. Log trucks, car haulers, bulk trailers and the tractors that pull them all fit what we buy, so tell us the trailer type along with the tractor when you send the VIN.
Interstate operators number 59 and intrastate ones 76 in that federal census, and 38 of the carriers run private fleets hauling their own goods. A contractor whose truck never leaves Virginia can sell it the same way as an over-the-road owner; we need the title, the registration and clear photos of the cab, frame and tires.
The largest outfits are small: per FMCSA’s carrier census the top three run 11, 7 and 6 power units. If you are selling two or three trucks from a yard that size, list each VIN and where each unit is parked so one visit can cover them.
What inspectors logged on trucks from this county seat
FMCSA roadside inspection records from September 2024 to August 2026 cover 57 trucks tied to carriers here, with a median model year of 2016 and 56 percent of them ten or more years old. Whatever the year on your title, read the VIN off the door jamb and the odometer off the dash and send both with your first message.
Spotsylvania Courthouse carriers that filed yearly mileage with FMCSA’s carrier census, 31 of them, put a typical truck at a median 40,000 miles. Note your own reading as it stands on the day you call, and keep any inspection reports from those roadside stops, since they record the truck’s history in the inspector’s own words.
Fuel and the post
Fuel out of Fredericksburg, trucks parked by Fort Walker
Tankers from the courthouse area load at the FREDERICKSBURG petroleum product terminal, which the Energy Information Administration sets 9.5 miles to the north-east. A tractor that pulls fuel out of that terminal can be picked up where it is parked; give us the lot address and the name of whoever controls the gate.
Fort Walker, a military installation listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, is 17.9 miles east. If your truck is parked near the post while you are stationed elsewhere, you can sell it from wherever you are now, as long as someone local can hand over the keys and the title is signed.
Cattle, soybeans, corn and the newer carriers
Cattle head the list across Spotsylvania County’s 281 farms, ahead of soybeans and corn, in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Grain trucks, livestock haulers and farm-plated straight trucks parked in a barn lot are trucks we collect, so tell us the road the farm is on and whether a tow truck can reach the barn.
FMCSA’s carrier census records 16 new carriers in this area in 2025 and 9 in 2024. If you started hauling recently and are selling the truck you began with, keep the bill of sale from your purchase with the title, which makes the ownership chain clear at signing.
The questions we get asked in Spotsylvania Courthouse
- Can my dump truck stay at the Spotsylvania Plant quarry until you collect it?The Mine Safety and Health Administration puts that crushed-stone quarry 2.4 miles north-east of the courthouse, and we can collect at the quarry itself. Give us the quarry office’s name so our driver is expected at the scale house.
- Does a log truck from the Spotsylvania woods fit what you buy?FMCSA’s carrier census lists 27 carriers here hauling logs, poles, beams and lumber, and their trucks fit what we buy. Send the VIN, the title and photos of the tractor and the log trailer.
- My truck sits in a cattle pasture off a county road near the courthouse. Can your driver reach it out there?USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 281 farms across Spotsylvania County, and a farm lane is a normal place for us to pick up a truck. Name the county road, describe the lane in from it and send a photo of where the truck stands.
