Crushed stone, two ways
Hauling from Middletown Quarry to the south-west and Frederick Quarry to the north
Stephens City has a crushed-stone quarry within seven miles in two directions: the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Middletown Quarry 6.2 miles south-west and Frederick Quarry 6.6 miles north. A dump truck or tri-axle that hauls stone out of either pit is something we collect where it is parked, whether that is a yard on Valley Pike or a lot near the scale house. Send the VIN and a few clear photos of the body and the bed.
Gore Mine, a sand and gravel operation the Mine Safety and Health Administration places 13.4 miles north-west, adds a third site within reach. If your truck has split its hours between gravel at Gore and stone at the two quarries, tell us which one it is closest to now so the pickup is planned from the right road.
For aggregate haulers, keep the registration card and any scale tickets or service invoices together in the cab. Those records, along with the title, are what we ask to see before a quarry truck changes hands.
The Virginia Inland Port and its intermodal ramp
Heading south out of Stephens City, the Virginia Inland Port rail yard comes up after 7.7 miles on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Its intermodal ramp at Front Royal appears on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list at that same distance.
A day cab that drays containers between the ramp and warehouses up the valley is a truck we buy, and so is the chassis-pulling sleeper that runs farther. Give us the VIN, the odometer reading and the engine make first, then photos of the fifth wheel, frame and tires.
If the tractor is still parked down at Front Royal near the port gate, there is no need to bring it into Stephens City. Give us the lot address near the port and say whether a rollback fits through its gate.
Sixty-nine trucking operations registered in Stephens City
Stephens City is the registered base of 69 active motor carriers, from owner-operators to fleets, under FMCSA’s carrier census. In that federal census, general freight is the cargo listed by 43 of them, beverages by 14, paper products by 12 and refrigerated food by 10, and the town’s equipment spans dry vans, reefers and route trucks.
Interstate authority is held by 40 of those carriers and intrastate by 29, while 25 are private fleets hauling their own goods, according to the same federal census. A private-fleet straight truck that only ever served one business here sells the same way as a for-hire tractor: title, registration and the keys.
Among the 20 local carriers reporting mileage, the federal carrier census puts the median at 24,785 miles per truck a year. FMCSA’s census shows the three biggest operations here running 28, 23 and 17 power units, and an owner selling several units at once can list them all in one request.
A 2017 midpoint across sixty-nine inspected rigs
Whichever side of that 2017 midpoint your truck falls on, the details we need are the same: year, make, model, engine and VIN. A copy of the latest roadside inspection report, if you kept one, can sit with the other records you send.
New registrations keep arriving as well, with seven carriers added in 2025 and two in 2024 under FMCSA’s census. An owner who started out recently and wants to sell a tractor bought in the last year or two can contact us on the same terms.
Replacing a lost title at the Winchester service center up Valley Pike
Titles in this state are issued by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, which handles replacements through DMV Customer Service Centers and DMV Select offices. The nearest to Stephens City is the DMV Customer Service Center - Winchester at 4050 Valley Pike, Winchester, 22602, about 1.8 miles from town.
If the title has gone missing, start the replacement at that Winchester center before we schedule collection, and bring your ID and the truck’s VIN. A title showing a lien needs the lender’s release with it.
Where the registered owner is a company rather than a person, the signer needs authority to sell for that business. Tell us early, and we will tell you what the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles expects on the transfer.
Job sites and farm lanes
Dump trucks for builders, grain trucks for growers
Stephens City accounts for 334 jobs in 2023 under the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. For the wider area, County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 37 construction establishments, the kind of firms that keep dump trucks, flatbeds and crew trucks on hand.
Outside town, Frederick County has 674 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle, corn and soybeans leading. A grain truck or livestock hauler kept at a farm lane is collected right there; mention any gate or soft ground the driver should know about.
Contractors and farmers alike should send the title, the registration and photos from all four sides of the truck. If a dump body, hoist or livestock box is mounted, add a photo of it and its maker’s plate.
