An agricultural valley first
Farming, forestry, fishing and hunting hold 1,069 of Ahtanum’s 1,790 jobs in 2023, or 59.7 percent, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. A truck sold here has often spent its seasons between fields, packing sheds and cold storage around the valley. When you write to us, say which crops or loads it carried, and send a photo of the body or trailer along with the cab.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 2,523 farms across Yakima County, with milk, cattle and corn listed as the top products. Milk tankers, livestock haulers and grain trucks from those operations are all trucks we buy. If yours stays parked at a dairy or a feedlot between runs, we collect it from that yard; tell us who can unlock the gate on the day.
Yakima’s two rail yards to the east
East of town, the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics marks a yard called YAKIMA at 5.7 miles and YAKIMA YARD at 5.8 miles. A day cab that shuttles freight to and from those sidings can stay right where it is parked while you sell it. Give us the street address of the lot and a contact name, and we arrange collection there.
Transportation and warehousing account for 158 jobs in Ahtanum, an 8.8 percent share on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, and County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau lists 3 warehousing establishments. For a tractor that worked those docks, the VIN, the current registration and a clear photo of each side are the first things to send us.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration records two sand and gravel operations 7.9 miles out: Wheeler Rock Products to the south-east and East Valley to the east. Dump trucks and end dumps that load at pits like those are part of what we purchase. If the truck is still on a pit site, check that the operator allows a pickup there before we set a date.
Horseshoe Bend Quarry, a crushed-stone site 17.4 miles north-west according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, is a longer drive up the valley. If your rock truck is parked at that quarry, tell us which gate it sits behind and whether the site has room to load it on a lowboy.
Construction trucks in the county
Construction firms number 76 establishments in County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau, and the LEHD job counts put 79 Ahtanum jobs, 4.4 percent, in construction for 2023. Water trucks, flatbeds and mixers from those contractors fit what we collect. Have the title and any service records together before you call, so the paperwork side of the sale moves along with the pickup.
Many construction trucks here spend winters parked on a contractor’s yard rather than a driveway. That is fine for collection; list the yard’s address, its hours, and the name of whoever holds the keys, and we work the pickup around those details.
Valley inspections
Across 241 trucks checked between 2024-09-03 and 2026-08-20, FMCSA roadside inspection records give a median model year of 2016 near Ahtanum. Those same FMCSA records show 47.7 percent of the trucks were ten or more model years old. Whatever the model year of yours, send the year, make, model and VIN up front.
Hold on to the inspection sheets from any of those Yakima-area stops. If you have recent ones, or a log of oil changes and annual checks, attach them alongside your photos so we see the whole record at once.
Title and Washington’s clean truck rules
Should the title for your Ahtanum truck be missing, the state’s title agency issues the replacement, and that needs to happen before the sale closes. Start that request early and tell us it is under way, along with the name on the registration, so both steps line up.
Washington’s Department of Ecology lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule and of the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus standards, WAC 173-423-081, as paused, while its update to regulatory guidance for those rules is in force. Neither status stops you selling a truck you already own in Ahtanum; mention any emissions paperwork you hold so it travels with the title.
