Gravel pits and quarries on Chico’s doorstep
Plant #2, a sand and gravel operation 1.2 miles north of Chico, appears in the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list of mines. A truck that has spent its shifts hauling out of that pit may still be parked on the operator’s ground or at a yard nearby, so tell us the exact spot and who holds the gate key before we schedule the collection.
Kitsap Quarry lies 4.7 miles south, and Plant 1, another crushed-stone quarry, is 6.4 miles south, both on the mine register kept by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. If your dump truck or end-dump tractor has run stone between those two faces, photograph the bed, the hoist and the cab, and note which quarry it worked so the description lines up with what we see.
Bear Creek pit
Bear Creek and the roads toward it
Some 9.7 miles south-west, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records Bear Creek as a sand and gravel operation. If your truck is parked at that pit rather than at home in Chico, give us the site address and a phone number for whoever can let us in.
A gravel truck shared between Bear Creek and the pits nearer Chico usually carries a mix of paperwork from more than one site. Gather the title, the current registration and any service or inspection records you kept, and send them with the VIN so the questions we ask afterwards are short ones.
Bremerton naval sites
Bremerton’s naval installations and rail yard
According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, NG Bremerton is a military installation 5.1 miles south-east of Chico, and Naval Base Kitsap Bremerton WA sits 5.7 miles in the same direction. Box trucks, flatbeds and tractors that make deliveries to the base gates are trucks we purchase, and we collect them from a home driveway in Chico just as readily as from a contractor’s lot.
Between those two sites, the North American Rail Network, maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the BREMERTON NAVAL rail yard 5.5 miles south-east. If the truck is stored anywhere with restricted entry near the yard or the base, tell us at the start; we need a reachable address and someone on site to meet the driver.
East of the Sound
A Chico tractor and the Balmer Yard run
Balmer Yard, a rail yard 15.8 miles east of Chico on the North American Rail Network of the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, sits across the water from the Kitsap shore. Drivers who once pulled freight to and from that yard and now keep the tractor parked back in Chico do not need to move it anywhere; we come to the truck.
If you moved off the peninsula and the tractor stayed behind near Balmer Yard or in Kitsap County, you can still sell it from where you live now. Send us its location, the name of whoever can hand over the keys, and clear photos of the frame, the fifth wheel and the tires.
Tree and stock trucks
Cut-tree flatbeds and cattle haulers from Chico
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 570 farms in Kitsap County, and its leading entries there are cut Christmas trees, cut Christmas trees with short-term woody crops, and cattle. Flatbeds and straight trucks that haul cut trees in season, and stock trucks that move cattle, are welcome here.
A farm truck often sits on the property for months between harvests, so the title may be in a drawer you have not opened in a while. Find it before you contact us; if it is lost, the state’s title agency handles a replacement, and we can tell you what to ask them for.
Advanced Clean Trucks on hold, and what Chico sellers still bring
Under Washington’s Clean Vehicles Program, the state’s published guidance lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule as paused, and the same status applies to the state’s Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus emission standards. Neither paused rule changes what you need to sell a used truck from Chico: the title, registration and the keys.
That same guidance document, an update covering Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Low NOx Omnibus, is listed as in force. If you have questions about how it touches a newer truck you own, read it directly; for the sale itself, we only need the VIN, photos and where the truck is parked.
