Aggregate hauling from pits south-west and east of town
Canyon Resources, a sand and gravel operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register, lies 3.9 miles south-west of Edgewood. If your dump truck or transfer rig spends its days loading there, it may well be parked at the pit rather than at home; give us the gate location and who holds the key, and we collect it from that spot.
To the east, Sumner Pit And Plant is listed 4.4 miles out by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A tractor or end-dump that has run aggregate from Sumner should come with its title and current registration, plus a few clear photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab, so the description you send lines up with what we find on site.
A town where building is the main employer
Of 1,506 jobs counted in Edgewood for 2023 in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, 568 were in construction, a share of 37.7 percent. Owners of mixers, flatbeds, water trucks and dumps tied to those jobs can sell to us directly; have the VIN, the title and any service records together before you call.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau puts 146 construction establishments in Edgewood, against 3 in warehousing. If your truck belongs to a small contracting outfit, tell us whose name is on the title; when the business owns it, the person who signs for the business is the one we need at hand.
The same LEHD counts place 70 jobs, or 4.6 percent, in transportation and warehousing. A delivery box truck or a yard tractor from that side of town is just as welcome, and the paperwork is the same: title, registration and whatever inspection reports you kept.
Intermodal ramps, rail yards and roll-on/roll-off docks westward
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists Pierce County Terminal, a rail intermodal ramp, 4.1 miles west of Edgewood. If your day cab shuttles containers off that ramp and is kept in a drop lot, send the lot address and the gate contact so pickup can be arranged with the lot holder.
On the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Fife yard is 4.3 miles west and the Auburn yard 4.6 miles north-east. A tractor that pulls chassis between Fife and Auburn can be sold from wherever it is parked between runs, and the VIN plus a current odometer photo is the best first message.
Down at the waterfront, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Port of Tacoma’s East Blair One terminal 4.8 miles west and its Blair Terminal at 5 miles, both roll-on/roll-off. Carlile’s Tacoma Trucking Terminal, a liquid bulk site the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places 5.1 miles west, rounds out that strip; tank tractors that load there should come with whatever site inspection sheets you hold.
Freight, reefer and log carriers on the plateau
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 142 active carriers based in Edgewood, with general freight listed by 94 of them. The same FMCSA census shows meat and refrigerated food each listed by 23 carriers and logs, poles, beams or lumber by 20, so send reefer units and log trucks with their title and photos of the body as well as the cab.
Per that census, 82 Edgewood carriers operate intrastate only, 60 cross state lines and 61 run private fleets carrying their own goods. Whichever group you are in, the title and the registration matter most; a carrier closing out its authority should keep its USDOT number handy so we can match it to the truck.
Driver records in the FMCSA carrier census count 150 drivers working within 100 miles and 309 working beyond it. Among the 49 carriers reporting mileage to FMCSA, the median truck covers 38,000 miles a year; for a long-haul sleeper, send logbooks or trip records along with the photos.
Fleets big and small, newer and older
One Edgewood fleet registers 104 power units and 110 drivers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and the next two list 13 and 12 power units. Selling several units at once works the same as selling one; send a list of VINs and where each truck is parked, and we take them as a group.
Between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspectors stopped 370 trucks registered in Edgewood, whose median model year was 2018. In FMCSA’s inspection records, 36.8 percent of trucks were ten or more model years old, and any year is fine to send us; just include the year and the VIN.
FMCSA’s carrier census records newly registered Edgewood operators as well: ten during 2024, then eleven during 2025. If you are one of those newer operators stepping out of the business, the title may still carry a lender; tell us who holds the lien so the payoff and transfer can be lined up together.
Flower growers, cattle and Ecology’s clean truck rules
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,347 farms in Pierce County, with cut flowers and greens, cattle and hemp at the top of the list. A stake bed, a livestock hauler or a farm-plated straight truck from those operations is something we purchase too; have the title and the farm registration on hand.
Washington’s Department of Ecology lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus standard as paused, while its updated regulatory guidance for those rules is in force. Selling a diesel tractor from Edgewood today does not hinge on either paused rule, and the department’s publication is the place to check the current status.
The questions we get asked in Edgewood
- Our end-dump stays at Sumner Pit And Plant between jobs; does it have to come home to Edgewood first?Sumner Pit And Plant is 4.4 miles east of Edgewood on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s register, and we collect from there. Give us the operator contact who can let us through the gate.
- My chassis tractor is kept in a Fife lot beside the rail yard; is collection from that lot possible? The Fife yard is 4.3 miles west of Edgewood on the North American Rail Network, and a lot near it is a fine pickup point. Pass along that Fife lot’s street address and who runs its gate.
- We are winding down an Edgewood contracting business with its dumps and flatbeds; is one sale for all of them possible? With 146 construction establishments in Edgewood on the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, contractor fleets are common here, and we take a whole group in one sale. List each VIN and its parking spot, and have the signer for the business ready.
- What paperwork should I have ready for a reefer truck?Refrigerated food is listed by 23 Edgewood carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, and for a reefer unit we ask for the title, current registration, the reefer unit’s service records and photos of both the tractor and the box.
