Gravel pits and a stone quarry off the plain
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Thun Field Pit, a sand and gravel operation 4.8 miles north-east of Elk Plain, and a second one at Roy, 7.7 miles to the south-west. A dump truck or end dump that hauls out of either pit is usually parked at the pit, at a contractor’s yard, or at the owner’s home off the plain. Tell us which of those it is when you get in touch, and whether a gate or a key is involved.
Kapowsin Quarry, a crushed-stone quarry the Mine Safety and Health Administration places 8.9 miles east, is the other aggregate site in reach. If your truck has been loading stone there, send the VIN, the plate and a set of photos taken in daylight: both sides, the box or bed, the cab interior and the dash. Those few pictures answer most of what we would otherwise ask by phone.
A construction workforce on the plain
Construction held 257 of Elk Plain’s 1,108 jobs in 2023, or 23.2 percent, in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Contractors on those crews run tandem dumps, flatbeds, water trucks and service bodies, and any of them can be sold to us directly by the person whose name is on the title.
If the truck is registered to a construction company rather than to you, have whoever signs for the company ready to sign the title. Keep the current registration with it, plus any service records the shop kept, so the paperwork travels with the truck when we collect it from the job site or yard.
Frederickson yards to the north
According to the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, two rail yards both listed under the Frederickson name lie 3.1 miles north of Elk Plain. Day cabs that shuttle freight in and out of those yards are part of what we take on.
If your tractor is parked inside a rail-served industrial lot near Frederickson, tell us whose property it is on and who can let a driver in. We arrange the collection with them, so you do not need to move the truck yourself or be standing beside it on the day.
Tacoma’s port and the liquid bulk terminals
Tacoma’s port appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records 10.8 miles east of Elk Plain. Two liquid bulk terminals further north, Truck-Rail Handling at 14.4 miles and Arrow Reload Washington at 14.5 miles, are listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics as well.
A tractor that has pulled tankers or containers between those sites and the plain can stay where it last parked. Give us the address, a phone number for whoever holds the keys, and the title, and we plan the pickup around that spot rather than asking you to haul it home first.
Growers of greens, stock and hemp nearby
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,347 farms in Pierce County, with cut flowers and cultivated greens, cattle and hemp at the top of its list. Box trucks for flower growers, stock haulers for cattle operations and farm-plated grain or bale trucks all fit what we buy.
Farm trucks are often titled to a family member or to the farm itself, so check the name printed on the title before you contact us. If the truck sits in a barn or a field off a gravel lane, say so; a short description of the access lets us send the right equipment to reach it.
Paused Ecology rules for heavy diesels
The Washington Department of Ecology’s guidance shows enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule, as adopted in the state’s Clean Vehicles Program, is paused. Its medium- and heavy-duty emission standards under the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus are paused as well, while the updated regulatory guidance for those rules is in force.
You do not need to sort out where your diesel stands under those rules before selling it to us. Have the engine’s emissions label photographed along with the VIN plate, and we will read both when we look at the truck.
