Milk, cattle and wheat across Benton County
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,338 farms in Benton County and ranks milk, cattle and wheat as its top products. A milk tanker, a cattle pot tractor or a grain truck that serves those farms can be collected from the farmyard or the shed where it waits out the off season.
Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting account for 555 of the 1,486 jobs located in Finley in 2023, a 37.3 percent share in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. If your farm truck is titled to the farm business rather than to you, have the business registration and the name of whoever signs for it ready before we book the collection.
For a grain or livestock truck, photograph the box or trailer, the cab interior and the door plate with the VIN, and note whether the truck is parked in a field or on a paved yard so our driver knows how to reach it.
Sidings near town
Trucks working the yards at Hedges and south of Finley
Hedges, a rail yard on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, lies just 0.6 miles north-east, and a second yard carrying Finley’s own name sits 1.7 miles south-east. Tractors and day cabs that shuttle loads to and from those sidings are among the trucks we buy here.
When a truck sits on a yard lot rather than at home, tell us who controls the gate and give us a contact who can let our driver in. With that settled, the truck can stay where it is until the pickup, with no need to move it into town.
Racks at Pasco
Fuel haulers loading north of Finley at Pasco
Two petroleum product terminals listed as Pasco appear on the Energy Information Administration’s records, one 2.8 miles north of Finley and the other 5.1 miles north-west. A tank truck or a tractor that pulls fuel trailers off those racks fits what we purchase in Finley.
Farther out, a liquid bulk terminal sits 10.9 miles north-west, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tanker has loaded at any of these sites, keep its tank inspection paperwork and service records with the title, and list which terminals it has worked when you first get in touch.
Send pictures of the tank or trailer, the fifth wheel, the tires on each axle and the cab, so the photos and the paperwork tell the same story about the truck.
Hanford Pit and Finley’s building trades
Up the road toward Hanford, 15.6 miles north-west of Finley, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records a crushed-stone operation called Hanford Pit. Dump trucks and end-dump rigs that haul stone from that pit can be sold from the quarry yard or from wherever they are parked between loads.
Construction holds 294 jobs in Finley, 19.8 percent of the 2023 total, by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, and County Business Patterns from the same bureau lists 138 construction establishments. A builder with a dump truck, flatbed or mixer can have the title, registration and the company signer lined up before our call.
Manufacturing supplies another 243 jobs, or 16.4 percent, in the LEHD figures for 2023, while transportation and warehousing hold 90; County Business Patterns counts five warehousing establishments. Box trucks and straight trucks from those shops and warehouses are welcome too.
Between late August 2024 and late August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records logged 121 trucks around Finley, and the middle model year among them was 2015. Just over half, 52.9 percent by that same FMCSA tally, had reached ten or more years of age.
Whatever the model year on yours, start with the VIN and the odometer reading, then a clear photo of the title. Those three details answer most of what we ask before arranging the collection.
Ecology guidance
Paused enforcement and the Ecology update for Finley owners
Washington’s Department of Ecology guidance lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule, adopted from California through the state’s Clean Vehicles Program, as paused. The same Ecology publication shows enforcement of the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus standards for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles paused as well.
An update to the regulatory guidance for Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Low NOx Omnibus is in force, per that Ecology document. Selling a diesel truck in Finley under these rules needs the same paperwork as any other sale: a signed title, current registration and your identification.
The questions we get asked in Finley
- Can a truck parked by the Hedges siding near Finley be picked up there?Hedges sits 0.6 miles north-east of Finley and the Finley yard 1.7 miles south-east on the North American Rail Network, and a truck parked at either can be collected there. Tell us who manages the gate and how our driver gets in.
- Do you buy farm trucks from Benton County dairies and cattle operations?Milk and cattle lead Benton County’s farm products in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and tankers, livestock haulers and grain trucks from those 1,338 farms are trucks we buy. Have the title and the farm’s signing details ready.
- Does Washington’s clean truck enforcement pause change how I sell?Ecology’s guidance shows Advanced Clean Trucks and Low NOx Omnibus enforcement paused in Washington, and a sale in Finley still runs on a signed title, registration and your ID.
