Rail yards four miles toward the tideflats
Union Station, a rail yard on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, sits 4.1 miles east of Fircrest, and the Bay yard on that same network is 4.5 miles out in the same direction. A tractor that shuttles freight to and from those yards may well be parked down there between shifts rather than at home on a Fircrest street. Tell us which spot it is in and who can let us onto the lot.
Drivers working Tacoma’s rail yards often keep the cab, the VIN plate and the trailer connections photographed on a phone already. Send those shots along with a picture of the title, front and back, and the questions we come back with will be about the truck itself rather than its paperwork.
Tankers loading at the Tacoma racks
The Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals under the names TACOMA WA and TACOMA, each 4.3 miles east of Fircrest. Tank tractors and straight trucks that load at racks like these are trucks we purchase, whether they still pull a tanker or have been parked since the last contract ended.
Two liquid bulk terminals, Truck-Rail Handling Inc at 4.4 miles and Arrow Reload Washington Inc. at 4.8 miles, both east of town, appear in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings. If your tractor moved product between rail cars and road trailers at either one, have the registration and any annual inspection reports in one folder before you contact us, and note which terminal it served.
West Sitcum and the container ramp
Port of Tacoma’s West Sitcum Terminal handles roll-on/roll-off cargo 5.2 miles east of Fircrest, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, which also lists a rail intermodal ramp at West Sitcum the same distance away. Day cabs that pull chassis between the ramp and nearby yards are a common sight on that short run.
If your day cab is still badged for port access, leave it where it sits and tell us the gate it is behind. We arrange pickup with whoever controls that lot, so you do not need to move the tractor off the tideflats to sell it.
Contractor trucks from Fircrest’s own job base
Census Bureau LEHD job counts for 2023 put 1,223 jobs in Fircrest, and 55 of them, or 4.5 percent, are in construction. Dump trucks, flatbeds and box trucks from a small contractor’s yard are as welcome as a long-haul sleeper.
For a contractor’s truck, gather the title, current Washington registration and any service invoices you kept. If the title has gone missing, Washington’s title agency issues replacements, so start that request before we schedule collection.
Flowers, cattle, hemp
Nursery and livestock haulers in rural Pierce County
Pierce County’s 1,347 farms lead with cut flowers and cultivated greens, then cattle, then hemp, in the USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Stake-bed trucks hauling nursery greens and livestock haulers from cattle operations both fit what we take.
A farm truck kept in a barn or a back field outside Fircrest can stay right there. Send us directions to the gate, a phone number for whoever will be on site, and photos taken in daylight from all four corners.
Two paused rules, and the guidance still in force
Enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule, which the state adopted through its Clean Vehicles Program, is paused, according to a Department of Ecology publication. The same Department of Ecology document gives that paused status to the heavy-duty low-NOx Omnibus standards in WAC 173-423-081.
Updated guidance from the agency on the ACC II car rule, Advanced Clean Trucks and the low-NOx Omnibus is in force, per that publication. A diesel truck parked in Fircrest still sells on the basics: a title in your name, the keys and a clear way in for our driver.
The questions we get asked in Fircrest
- My tractor sits near the Union Station rail yard in Tacoma, not at my Fircrest address, so can you collect it from the rail yard?Union Station is 4.1 miles east of Fircrest on the North American Rail Network, and we collect from there directly. Name the yard, its gate and someone on the Tacoma side who can let our driver through.
- Do you buy tank trucks that served the Tacoma fuel terminals? The Energy Information Administration places two petroleum product terminals 4.3 miles east of Fircrest, and tank tractors that loaded there are trucks we purchase. Tell us which terminal it worked and send photos of the tractor and tank.
- My Fircrest truck’s title went missing somewhere between moves; which office sorts that out?Washington’s title agency issues replacement titles for vehicles registered in Pierce County, so request one there and tell us when you contact us that it is on the way.
- Will you pick up a farm truck from a property outside town?Pierce County has 1,347 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and we collect from farm properties across it. Send the address, gate details and who will meet our driver.
