Kanaskat, Issaquah and the Portable 1 quarry
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists a crushed-stone quarry named Portable 1 about 5.8 miles south-east of Hobart. If your dump truck or end dump has hauled rock out of that site, tell us so when you first get in touch, and send photos of the bed, the hoist and the tailgate alongside the cab.
Further out the same way, the Palmer Junction Gravel Pit at Kanaskat sits roughly 8.8 miles south-east, according to MSHA’s mine records. A truck parked out near Kanaskat can stay there; give us the gate details and the name of whoever holds the key, and the collection gets planned around that yard.
North of town, MSHA records the Issaquah Pit & Plant, a sand and gravel operation about 9.2 miles away. Sellers whose trucks run the Issaquah side should have the title, the current Washington registration and any service records together before we talk, since those three papers answer most of what we ask.
Construction carries Hobart’s job count
Hobart’s 887 workplace jobs in 2023 included 315 in construction, or 35.5 percent, on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for the hillside town. Tandem dumps, flatbeds with cranes and pickup-based service bodies all belong to that kind of work, and any of them can be sold to us from a job site or a driveway.
Around Hobart, 153 builders, excavators and other construction establishments appear in the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns. If your truck belongs to a small contractor and is registered to the business rather than to you, have whoever signs for the company ready to sign the title as well.
Builders often keep a truck on site between jobs. Tell us the street address or the site entrance it sits behind, and whether a low-clearance gate or a soft shoulder sits in the way, so the tow truck we send is the right one.
Renton’s yards and terminals to the west
About 10.6 miles west, the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows two rail yards at Renton, one listed as Renton and the other as Renton Yard at 10.7 miles. Day cabs that shuttle freight between those yards and the warehouses around them are tractors we will look at; the VIN and an odometer photo are the first two things we need.
The Energy Information Administration places a petroleum product terminal at Renton, 10.7 miles from Hobart. If you run a fuel tanker or a tractor that pulls one out of there, list the tank’s last inspection date and keep its test paperwork with the title.
Quality Transload Inc, a liquid bulk terminal about 11 miles west, appears in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics listing. Tanker and transload rigs stationed near it can be collected right where they park, as long as someone can let the driver in.
Toward the water
The Seattle port run
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the port of Seattle about 9.6 miles from Hobart. Container chassis tractors and drayage day cabs that cover that run are welcome, and a truck left at a yard near the port does not need to be brought back up to Hobart first.
For a port truck, send clear photos of the fifth wheel, the frame rails and each axle along with the cab and the dash. That set lets us see the tractor the way a driver would before anyone travels to it.
FMCSA inspections of south-east King County rigs
FMCSA roadside inspection records from August 2024 to August 2026 cover 158 trucks tied to this area, with a median model year of 2018. Whatever year yours is, the model year and engine make on the title help us match it to the right family of trucks.
Just under four in ten of those 158 Hobart-area trucks, 39.24 percent, were ten or more model years old when FMCSA inspectors checked them at the roadside. Older tractors and dump trucks are part of what we buy, so send the title year and the VIN without leaving anything out.
King County’s dairy and cattle operations
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,604 farms in King County, with milk, cattle and foliage plants listed as the top products. Farm trucks used for feed, livestock or nursery stock qualify, whether the registration is a farm plate or a standard commercial one.
A farm truck often stays in a barn or a field lane. Tell us where on the property it stands and whether the ground is firm in wet weather, and include the farm name on the title if it is registered that way.
Ecology’s paused rules and a missing Washington title
Washington’s Department of Ecology publication on its Clean Vehicles Program lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule and of the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus, WAC 173-423-081, as paused. An updated guidance document on those rules is listed by the same publication as in force; keep any emissions paperwork that came with your truck alongside the title.
A lost Washington title is replaced through Washington’s state title agency, before or during the sale. Start that request early if the title is missing, and tell us so we can work around it.
The questions we get asked in Hobart
- Can my end dump stay at Palmer Junction near Kanaskat instead of coming down to Hobart? The Palmer Junction Gravel Pit at Kanaskat lies about 8.8 miles south-east of Hobart on MSHA’s records, and we collect from there. Name whoever opens the Palmer Junction gate and describe which corner of the pit holds the truck.
- Do you buy a tractor that pulls fuel from the Renton terminal west of Hobart?Renton’s petroleum product terminal, 10.7 miles west by the Energy Information Administration’s listing, is served by exactly the tractors and tankers we buy. Send the VIN, an odometer photo and the tank’s test paperwork.
- Whose signature goes on the title when a Hobart contractor’s business owns the dump truck? With 315 of Hobart’s 887 jobs in construction on the Census Bureau’s LEHD counts, company-titled trucks come up often here. The person authorised to sign for the business signs the title, and we need their name when you first contact us.
