Gravel pits north-east, stone quarries to the north
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Airport Pit, a sand and gravel operation 8.1 miles north-east of Key Center, and Bethel Pit 10.6 miles out in the same direction. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that hauls aggregate from those pits may well be parked at a pit yard or a contractor’s lot when you sell it, so give us that address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
Farther north, Plant 1 is a crushed-stone quarry 14.2 miles away and Kitsap Quarry is 15.6 miles away, both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list. If your truck has run stone out of either one, photograph the bed, the hoist and the frame rails along with the cab, and keep the registration card in the glovebox so it is on hand at pickup.
FMCSA’s census also registers 40 of them as private fleets, so many trucks here belong to a contractor or a farm that hauls its own goods, so the seller is often the business owner rather than a trucking company.
Among the cargo types declared on FMCSA’s carrier census, general freight appears for 23, logs, poles, beams and lumber for 14, machinery and large objects for 13, and farm supplies for 7. A log truck with its bunks and stakes, or a lowboy tractor used for equipment moves, can be sold as it sits; list the trailer or body that goes with it so we know what we are collecting.
Driver radius filings in the same FMCSA census show 55 carriers working within 100 miles and 43 beyond it. Where FMCSA’s carrier census records annual mileage for 12 Key Center carriers, the median per truck is 11,250 miles, so have the current odometer reading written down before you contact us.
Small outfits and the model years they run
An owner selling one tractor out of a handful can send the VIN for each unit in a single message, and we will treat each as its own collection.
Whatever the year of yours, have the title in hand; if it has gone missing, the state’s title agency handles a replacement, and starting that request before pickup keeps the paperwork in step.
New registrations on the federal carrier census are few: 2 carriers started in 2025 and 1 in 2024. If you bought a truck recently for a new operation and it no longer fits the work, the same papers apply, with the title and registration in the name of the business that holds them.
Construction jobs and builders on the peninsula
A dump truck, flatbed or service truck that has supported building work here may be sitting at a job site when you call; tell us whether a loader or another vehicle is blocking access.
If your truck is titled to one of those firms, the person signing the title needs the authority to sign for the business, so check who that is before the day of collection.
Farms and terminals
Pierce County farms, Tacoma terminals and rail
A stock truck or farm flatbed kept in a barn or field can be collected there; send a photo showing the approach so the recovery truck can plan the way in.
To the east, the Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals at Tacoma, at 15.8 and 15.9 miles, and the North American Rail Network shows the Union Station rail yard 15.7 miles away. If you hauled fuel or rail freight from those sites and the truck is still parked on the Tacoma side, it does not need to come back across to Key Center for us to pick it up.
The Washington Department of Ecology’s guidance lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule, as adopted in the state’s Clean Vehicles Program, as paused. The same Ecology guidance shows enforcement paused for the state’s Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus standard for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
An update to Ecology’s regulatory guidance covering those rules and Advanced Clean Cars II is in force. Selling a truck you already own and have registered is a title transfer, so keep the registration current until the sale is complete.
