Portable 1 to Kanaskat
Quarry and gravel trucks off the Cedar River hills
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Portable 1, a crushed-stone quarry, 6 miles east of Maple Valley, and Franklin Ridge Sand & Gravel 6.9 miles to the south-east. A tri-axle dump or a belly-dump that hauls from either one can be collected at the pit gate or at your yard; tell us which, and whether someone needs to sign us in.
Further out, Palmer Junction’s Kanaskat pit, a sand and gravel operation 8 miles east, and Thunder Mountain Quarry, 10 miles south-east, both appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records. For a truck that has spent its working life on those haul roads, send photos of the bed, the hoist and the tag axle along with the VIN and the title.
Rail and fuel to the west
Kent, Orillia and the Renton tank farm
Kent Auto-Ramp, a rail yard 9.6 miles west, and the Orillia yard at 10.6 miles are both carried on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your day cab has been shuttling chassis or loads to those yards along the valley floor, give us the registration and the name on the title first; the rest of our questions follow from those two.
Quality Transload, a liquid bulk terminal 10.4 miles west, is listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, and the Energy Information Administration places a petroleum product terminal at Renton, 10.8 miles to the north-west. Tank tractors and fuel trucks based near either site can stay where they are parked; note the address, the gate hours and any tank inspection records you keep with the truck.
Maple Valley’s registered haulers, by operation
FMCSA’s carrier census shows 216 active carriers based in Maple Valley, with 172 running intrastate only and 44 authorised for interstate work. A truck that has never left Washington still needs its title and current registration in the seller’s name, so check both before you call.
Private fleets moving their own goods make up 132 of the 216, a split the FMCSA census records for Maple Valley alone. Contractors and landscapers who keep a single dump truck or flatbed behind the shop fall into that group, and we buy one truck as readily as several.
The three biggest fleets registered with FMCSA here run 98, 65 and 23 power units. If you are clearing out several tractors from one lot, list every VIN together so a single visit covers them.
Freight, machinery and timber loads
General freight is the cargo most often declared, by 111 local carriers in FMCSA’s census, followed by machinery and large objects at 48. Lowboys, step-decks and the tractors that pull them are welcome; include the trailer’s own title if it is part of the sale.
Twenty-six Maple Valley carriers list logs, poles, beams and lumber, and 19 list refrigerated food, per the FMCSA carrier census. For a log truck, photos of the bunks and stakes help; for a reefer unit, have the make and hours from the refrigeration unit’s display ready.
Building crews, dairies and nurseries
Construction filled 592 of Maple Valley’s 6,188 jobs in 2023, a 9.6 percent share in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Transportation and warehousing accounted for 246 more under the same LEHD figures. Dump trucks, water trucks and service bodies from building sites around town are all trucks we collect from the job site itself.
King County held 1,604 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, cattle and foliage plants as the leading products. A cattle hauler or a box truck that has served a dairy or nursery can be picked up on the farm; just tell us how to reach the barn or the yard.
Miles and mileage
Annual miles and the clean-truck rules
Across 52 carriers reporting to FMCSA, the median truck logged 22,731 miles a year. FMCSA’s census also counts 566 drivers working within 100 miles of base and 293 going beyond it, so tell us whether the truck is at home or parked at a terminal elsewhere.
Washington’s Department of Ecology reports that enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rules is paused, while its updated guidance for those rules is in force. Have the engine model year and the emissions label photographed so the truck’s paperwork is complete either way.
The questions we get asked in Maple Valley
- My dump truck stays parked at a gravel pit out toward Kanaskat; will you pick it up from the pit?Sand and gravel operations such as Franklin Ridge, 6.9 miles south-east and listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, are places we drive to. Give us the pit name and who opens the gate, and we arrange the pickup on site.
- My truck has never hauled outside Washington; is the sale handled any differently for an intrastate rig?Of 216 Maple Valley carriers in FMCSA’s census, 172 are intrastate only, so it is the usual case here. Bring the title and current Washington registration, and the sale proceeds the same way.
- Do you take log trucks and lowboys as well as tractors?Twenty-six local carriers haul logs and lumber and 48 haul machinery, per FMCSA’s carrier census, and we buy the trucks and trailers that do that work. Send photos of the deck or bunks with the VIN.
