Sand and gravel loads on both sides of McMillin
Barely 1.9 miles out of McMillin toward the north-east, Fennel Resources digs sand and gravel, as recorded by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. A tandem dump or belly-dump rig that loads there may well be parked in a yard by the pit when you sell it, so give us the street address and the gate details, and we will route the pickup to that spot.
Head the other way, 3.6 miles south-west, and the Mine Safety and Health Administration records Thun Field Pit, another sand and gravel site. If your truck splits its week between the two pits, say which one it is nearest when you call, and send photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab so we know which body is mounted.
Further south, the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Kapowsin Quarry, a crushed-stone operation about 10.4 miles from town. Rock trucks and transfer trailers that run that leg are on our list too; keep the registration in the cab and the service log beside it for the day we arrive.
Half the town in plants
A McMillin workforce weighted toward the factory floor
Manufacturing accounts for 174 of McMillin’s 326 jobs, a 53.4 percent slice of the town’s 2023 total in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Box trucks, flatbeds and straight trucks that move parts or finished goods between plants are welcome here, and a seller should have the title and the last inspection sheet ready to hand over.
Construction holds 56 of those jobs, or 17.2 percent, according to the same LEHD tally from the Census Bureau. Contractors with a dump, a stake bed or a crane truck sitting idle between jobs can send us the VIN and a few walk-around photos of the body and chassis.
Frederickson tracks, Blair docks
Frederickson to the Tacoma waterfront
West of McMillin by 7.1 miles, the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the Frederickson yard. Day cabs that shuttle loads to and from that yard can be collected wherever they are parked, whether that is a lot near the tracks or your driveway.
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Pierce County Terminal, a rail intermodal ramp, 10.8 miles north-west, and the Port of Tacoma’s East Blair One roll-on/roll-off terminal 11.4 miles out in the same direction. A container chassis tractor or a car-hauler that works those docks should come with its registration and any port access records you kept.
That federal statistics bureau also lists Tacoma itself as a port 7.7 miles from town. A sleeper or day cab parked down by the water can stay where it is; give us the location and we plan the pickup around it.
Stems and stock
Flower growers, cattle and hemp around McMillin
McMillin’s county carried 1,347 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, where cut flowers and cultivated greens top the list, ahead of cattle and hemp. Refrigerated straight trucks that move stems to market and stock trucks that carry cattle both fit what we purchase.
On a farm, the truck often sits in a barn or a field lane rather than at a paved yard. Tell us how a tow rig would reach it, and have the title in the owner’s name or a note of whose name is on it.
A licensing counter on Meridian in South Hill
A lost certificate of title is replaced through the Washington State Department of Licensing, which handles the work at its vehicle and vessel licensing offices. The Department of Licensing office list puts the closest one to McMillin about 3 miles from town: McCallum License Agency, Inc. (South Hill), which the Washington State Department of Licensing lists at 16126 Meridian E Ste 107, Puyallup, 98375.
Go there before pickup if the title is missing, carrying your ID and the truck’s VIN. A clean title in hand on collection day keeps the sale simple for both sides.
Ecology’s engine rules and McMillin owners
Washington’s Department of Ecology publishes the state’s adoption of Advanced Clean Trucks within its Clean Vehicles Program, and for now enforcement of it is on hold. The Department of Ecology notice shows the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus, WAC 173-423-081, in the same position, with enforcement also on hold.
One item from that same Ecology notice does apply today: the update to regulatory guidance for Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rules is in force. McMillin owners with a newer engine can keep its emissions label and build sheet with the title so the paperwork travels with the truck.
