Aggregate beside the base
Two pits on the Nisqually side of town
Only 2.2 miles west of North Fort Lewis, Dupont Pit is recorded by the Mine Safety and Health Administration as a working sand and gravel operation. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that has hauled aggregate out of Dupont can usually be collected from the yard where it is parked between loads, so send us that address rather than moving it.
Nisqually Pit, another sand and gravel site on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, lies 7.3 miles to the south-west. If your truck split its work between the two pits, tell us which one it ran from most often and photograph the body, the hoist and the tailgate along with the cab and the VIN plate.
Fuel racks and reload sites toward Tacoma
Two petroleum product terminals, listed by the Energy Information Administration as TACOMA WA and TACOMA, sit about 12.1 and 12.2 miles north-east of North Fort Lewis. Tank wagons and tractors that load fuel there fit what we purchase; have the registration and any tank inspection paperwork in one folder before you call.
Truck-Rail Handling Inc, 11.8 miles out, and Arrow Reload Washington Inc., 12.1 miles out, both appear in Bureau of Transportation Statistics records as liquid bulk terminals. A tractor that has shuttled trailers between those reload sites can stay wherever it is parked; give us the location and the name of someone who can let us onto the lot.
Frederickson Yard
East of town by 10.6 miles, the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, places the Frederickson rail yard. Day cabs that move freight on and off a yard like Frederickson are on our list, so note the cab type and axle setup when you first get in touch.
If the tractor is parked near Frederickson rather than in North Fort Lewis, it can be collected there. Send a photo of the odometer, the title front and back, and the yard’s gate hours so the pickup can be arranged around them.
Local payrolls and Pierce County flower growers
North Fort Lewis carried 331 jobs in 2023, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. A town with a workforce that size often has a truck or two sitting on a residential lot or behind a small shop, and either location is fine for collection as long as there is room to load it.
Across Pierce County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture records 1,347 farms, with cut flowers and cultivated greens, cattle and hemp at the top of the list. Box trucks that carried nursery stock and stock trucks that hauled cattle both qualify; tell us what the body was built for and include photos of its interior.
Advanced Clean Trucks on hold in Pierce County
Washington’s Department of Ecology, in publication 2514036, lists enforcement of Advanced Clean Trucks, as adopted in the state’s Clean Vehicles Program, as paused. The same Ecology publication shows the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus, Washington’s medium- and heavy-duty vehicle emission standard, paused as well.
An update to Ecology’s regulatory guidance covering Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Low NOx Omnibus is listed in that document as in force. Selling a diesel tractor from North Fort Lewis needs no clean-truck paperwork from you; the title, the registration and your photos are what we ask for.
The questions we get asked in North Fort Lewis
- My dump truck sits at a gravel yard by Dupont Pit, not in town. Will your driver come to the pit road for it?Dupont Pit is 2.2 miles west of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we collect the truck from that yard. Name whoever holds the gate key at that gravel yard and we will set the collection up with them.
- Will you take a fuel tanker that has been filling at the TACOMA WA rack? The Energy Information Administration lists two Tacoma petroleum product terminals about 12 miles north-east of North Fort Lewis, and tankers that work them are trucks we purchase. Send the VIN, the title and photos of the tank and cab.
- Does Washington’s paused Advanced Clean Trucks rule change anything about selling my truck?Washington’s Department of Ecology shows Advanced Clean Trucks enforcement as paused in the state, and you need no extra emissions paperwork to sell to us. Your Washington title in your name, plus the current registration card, covers the paperwork side.
