East to the tideflats
Ro-ro docks and container rails five miles from Ruston
Two roll-on/roll-off berths sit on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list just east of town: the Port of Tacoma’s TOTE Maritime Alaska Terminal at 5 miles and Terminal 7 (T7) at 5.2 miles. A tractor that has shuttled trailers onto those ships can be collected from a yard near the docks or from a driveway in Ruston; send us the address and the name of whoever holds the gate key.
East Sitcum Terminal, a rail intermodal ramp the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places 4.9 miles east, and the TMBL CONTAINER rail yard at 5 miles on the North American Rail Network both handle boxes moving between ship and train. If your day cab has pulled chassis between them, have the VIN, the plate and the registration card ready before you call, and photograph the cab, the frame and the fifth wheel in daylight.
Tacoma also appears as a strategic seaport in the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records, about 4.6 miles east of Ruston. Tell us which terminal a truck served and roughly when; that history goes into the file next to your photos and saves a round of questions later.
Southeast along the bay
Fuel terminals and Union Station within five miles
Southeast of Ruston, the Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals, TACOMA at 4.5 miles and TACOMA WA at 4.6 miles. Tank tractors and fuel straight trucks that loaded at those racks fit what we collect; send any site inspection sheets or safety records the terminals asked you to carry along with the title.
Union Station, a rail yard on the North American Rail Network, lies 4.4 miles south-east. Service trucks, flatbeds and pickups with utility bodies that worked around the yard all qualify, and a seller only needs to tell us whether the truck sits on public road, in a fenced lot or behind a rail gate.
A truck that finished its last shift at one of these terminals can stay where it is parked. Point us to the spot and we arrange collection around the site’s own access hours.
Westward to Gig Harbor
Reissuing a missing title from the Gig Harbor side of the water
A Ruston seller with no paper title goes to the Washington State Department of Licensing, whose vehicle and vessel licensing offices issue the replacement. The nearest to Ruston, by the Department of Licensing’s office list, is PENINSULA LICENSE AGENCY at 3206 50th St Ct NW A109, Gig Harbor, 98335, about 3.3 miles from town.
Bring the registration, your ID and any lien release to that counter if the paper title is missing. A truck still carrying a loan can be sold too; tell us the lender’s name at the start so the payoff paperwork is lined up with the bill of sale.
If the title names a business rather than you, have the company officer who signs for it on hand when we schedule the pickup in Ruston.
Town payrolls and Pierce County farm lanes
Ruston counted 700 jobs in 2023, a figure from the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Box trucks, dump trucks and service vans parked on Ruston’s side streets are all ones we will look at once you send the VIN and photos.
Pierce County held 1,347 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and cut flowers and cultivated greens, cattle and hemp led the county’s list. Livestock haulers, flatbeds and stake-bed trucks from those operations can be picked up at the farm itself; share the gate location and whether the lane takes a tow truck.
For a farm truck registered under a ranch or nursery name, have that business’s title ready, plus a note of which fields or barns the truck served.
Clean truck standards in Washington today
Washington adopted California’s advanced clean trucks regulation in its Clean Vehicles Program, and the state’s Ecology guidance shows enforcement of it is paused. The Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus, the state’s medium- and heavy-duty engine standards, sits in that same publication, and its enforcement is also on hold.
For a truck leaving Ruston, the guidance update now in force is the one Ecology issued for Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus together. A Ruston owner can leave these questions with us; the engine model year printed on the door sticker is the one detail we ask for.
