Rock and gravel along the valley road
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists the Cadman Longview (Gold Bar) Pit, a sand and gravel operation, 8.5 miles east of Sultan, and Heidelberg Materials High Rock Quarry, a crushed-stone site, 8.8 miles to the west. A dump truck or end-dump tractor that shuttles between those two sites is often parked at the pit gate or a yard nearby rather than in town. Tell us which site it sits at and who can let us in, and we collect it there.
Further out, Iron Mountain Quarry lies 14.9 miles north-east and Menzel Lake Gravel 14.9 miles north-west, both on MSHA’s list of active mines. If your aggregate truck has worked those runs, photograph the bed, the hoist, the frame and the cab, and send the VIN with them. Those four shots plus the plate number answer most of what we would otherwise ask.
Small outfits hauling lumber and machinery
Seventy-six active carriers call Sultan home on FMCSA’s carrier census, a small base for a town of 6,116 in the Census Bureau’s figures. On that census, 37 list general freight, 24 haul machinery and large objects, 16 carry logs, poles, beams or lumber, and 12 move metal sheets, coils and rolls. A log truck, a lowboy tractor or a flatbed rig used for steel coils is the kind of equipment those listings describe, and all of them are trucks we buy.
The three leading fleets registered in town run 4, 3 and 3 power units, with a driver for each, on FMCSA’s carrier census. With operations that size, the person selling is usually the person who drove it. Have the Washington title in hand, plus the current registration, and if a bank still holds a lien, have the lender’s name and account number ready so the payoff can be arranged.
In 2024, 6 new carriers started up in Sultan, and 3 more followed in 2025, per FMCSA’s carrier census. If you bought a truck to start one of those businesses and are now stepping back from it, the truck can be sold whether or not your operating authority is still active; just tell us which it is.
Short-haul work inside Washington
Sixty-six of the 76 carriers in town run intrastate only, ten cross state lines, and 42 are private fleets hauling their own goods, per FMCSA registration filings. A private-fleet truck often belongs to a business rather than a person, so whoever signs needs authority to sign for the company. Bring the business name exactly as it appears on the title.
Drivers working out of Sultan mostly stay near home: the federal carrier census records 94 within a 100-mile radius and 35 who go beyond it. On FMCSA filings, a typical truck from the 15 Sultan carriers reporting mileage covers 16,667 miles a year at the median. A truck on those short runs is most likely parked at home, at a shop, or on a job site near town when we arrange collection, and any of those works for us.
Gold Bar yard, Delta Yard and Everett’s seaport
Gold Bar’s rail yard is 4.5 miles up the road east of Sultan, with Delta Yard 19.9 miles west, both mapped on the North American Rail Network of the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. A tractor that has pulled loads to or from either yard can be picked up wherever it is parked between them; send the address and a gate contact.
Everett’s strategic seaport sits 20.9 miles west, and the Jim Creek military installation 23.4 miles north, on Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings. If your truck is stored near Everett or up toward Jim Creek, it does not need to be driven back to Sultan before a sale. Let us know if the lot has access hours so we can plan the visit around them.
Sultan’s plant jobs and Snohomish dairy farms
Of the 1,105 jobs located in Sultan in 2023, 190 were in manufacturing, a 17.2 percent share, and 59 were in construction, or 5.3 percent, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. Trucks tied to that work include flatbeds feeding a plant, dump trucks on building sites, and service bodies for contractors. If yours carries a crane, a lift gate or a dump body, list it, since the body goes with the chassis in one sale.
Across Snohomish County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,418 farms, with milk, cattle and corn as the top products. A straight truck used for feed, a livestock hauler or a bulk milk tractor from one of those farms is also something we purchase. Keep any service records you have, and if the title is in a farm’s name, the person listed on it is the one who signs.
Title, keys and photos for a Sultan sale
No Sultan fleet on FMCSA’s carrier census runs more than 4 power units, so in most cases one owner holds every document. Find the title, the registration card and the keys, then take photos of all four sides, the dash with the odometer showing, and the VIN plate on the door jamb.
A lost Washington title is replaced through the state’s title agency, filed by the owner whose name the Sultan registration carries. Start that early if you can, and tell us at first contact that a replacement is on its way, so we know what to expect when we come out to Snohomish County.
The questions we get asked in Sultan
- Can you collect a dump truck sitting at the Gold Bar gravel pit?The Cadman Longview (Gold Bar) Pit is 8.5 miles east of town on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and we come out to the truck there. Give us the gate details and the name of whoever controls access.
- Is a log hauler with bunks from Sultan something you purchase?Sixteen Sultan carriers list logs, poles, beams or lumber on FMCSA’s carrier census, and those log trucks and their trailers are equipment we buy. Photograph the bunks, stakes and frame, and send them with the VIN and title.
- Does an intrastate-only Washington truck from Sultan qualify?Sixty-six of Sultan’s 76 active carriers are intrastate only on FMCSA’s carrier census, so a Washington-only truck is the usual case here. Bring the Washington title and current registration and the sale goes ahead the same way.
- Who signs the title when a Sultan business owns the truck?Forty-two of Sultan’s carriers are private fleets on FMCSA filings, and for a company-owned truck the person with authority to sign for that business signs the title. Have the company name exactly as it reads on the title.
