Quarry and gravel hauling north and south of town
Heidelberg Materials High Rock Quarry, a crushed-stone operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, lies about 9.5 miles north of Union Hill-Novelty Hill. Dump trucks and end-dump tractors that cycle stone off that site often spend their nights in a driveway or a shared lot back in Union Hill-Novelty Hill. Tell us the exact parking spot and whether a loaded rollback can turn in there.
To the south, the Mine Safety and Health Administration records Issaquah Pit & Plant, a sand and gravel operation also around 9.5 miles away. Snoqualmie S&G, which trades as CalPortland Company, sits 13.3 miles to the south-east in Mine Safety and Health Administration listings. If your truck has run between those pits and job sites, send photos of the bed, the hoist and the cab along with the VIN, so we see the whole unit the first time.
Gravel and stone trucks usually carry a bed or body that was fitted after the chassis left the factory. Have the title and current registration together, and if the body maker’s plate or paperwork is still around, photograph it as well.
Flatbeds and dumps from local building crews
Of the 4,655 jobs located here in 2023, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 235 in construction, about 5 percent. Those crews move material in flatbeds, dump trucks and service bodies, and many of those vehicles stay parked at home between jobs.
County Business Patterns, published by the Census Bureau, records 69 construction establishments in the area. If you run one of them and are cutting a truck from the yard, a single contact can cover several units: list each VIN and where each one is parked, and we plan the collections from that list.
A contractor’s truck sometimes has its registration in a business name rather than a personal one. Check which name sits on the title before you call; whoever is named there signs it over.
Wholesale and manufacturing loads
Wholesale trade accounts for 130 local jobs, 2.8 percent of the total, in the Census Bureau’s 2023 LEHD figures, and manufacturing for 121, or 2.6 percent. Box trucks, reefers and day cabs that deliver for those employers are trucks we purchase, whatever size the business behind them.
With a delivery truck, gather the maintenance log or service invoices if you kept them, plus a photo of the odometer and the data plate on the door jamb. Those two pictures answer most of our first questions about a box truck or a straight truck.
Drayage toward the Seattle waterfront
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists Terminal 30 (T-30) about 16.2 miles west and Seattle International Gateway (SIG) about 16.3 miles west, both rail intermodal ramps, and it places the port of Seattle roughly 15.8 miles off. Tractors that pull containers from those ramps may end the day back here or still be parked near the waterfront.
COACH and COACH YARD, two rail yards about 16 miles west, are recorded in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. If your tractor is sitting at a yard or a terminal lot rather than at home, give us the gate contact and any access rules so the pickup is set up with whoever controls the lot.
Milk, cattle and foliage-plant hauling
King County held 1,604 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with milk, cattle and foliage plants as the top products. Stock trucks, feed haulers and flatbeds that carry nursery stock may be registered as farm vehicles, so check the plate type and have the registration card ready.
Farm trucks are often parked in a barn or out in a field. Tell us whether the ground is firm enough for a tow vehicle and which gate to use, and send a couple of photos of the approach along with photos of the truck.
Paused emissions enforcement and a lost title
Washington’s Department of Ecology, in its published guidance, lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus standards as paused, while its updated guidance on those rules is in force. Selling a truck you already own does not wait on either rule; we still need the title, the registration and photos.
If the title has gone missing, Washington’s title agency issues a replacement, and the owner named on the record applies for it. Start that request early and tell us it is under way, since we can talk through the rest of the sale while the replacement is being issued.
The questions we get asked in Union Hill-Novelty Hill
- My dump truck is parked up near the High Rock quarry, not at home. Will you pick it up from the quarry site?High Rock Quarry sits about 9.5 miles north of Union Hill-Novelty Hill on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we arrange collection where the truck stands. Give us the site contact and the gate details so the pickup is agreed with whoever runs the lot.
- I pulled containers out of the Seattle International Gateway ramp. Do you buy drayage tractors?Seattle International Gateway is one of two rail intermodal ramps the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places a little over 16 miles west of here, and day cabs and sleepers that worked it are trucks we purchase. Send the VIN, an odometer photo and pictures of the frame and fifth wheel.
- The truck is registered to my construction company. With the company name on the paperwork, who handles the transfer? With 69 construction establishments recorded here in County Business Patterns, plenty of local trucks are titled to a business. The person authorised to sign for the business named on the title signs it over, so confirm that name before we set up the collection.
- It is a farm-plated truck from a King County dairy. Do you take farm-registered trucks?Milk tops the list of King County products in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, so dairy trucks with farm plates are common here, and we buy them. Have the title and the farm registration ready, and tell us where on the property the truck is parked.
