Pits and quarries up the peninsula
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Airport Pit, a sand and gravel operation 3.3 miles north of Wauna, and Bethel Pit, another sand and gravel site 5.5 miles to the north-east. A dump truck or end-dump that cycles between those pits and local job sites may be sitting at a pit lot rather than at your house. Give us the exact spot and the name of whoever controls the gate, and the collection gets planned around that.
Further out, two crushed-stone quarries appear in Mine Safety and Health Administration records: Plant 1, 10.4 miles north, and Kitsap Quarry, 12 miles north. If your truck hauled rock from either, note it when you get in touch, along with the VIN and a set of photos showing the bed, the cab and the frame rails. That way the first questions we ask are about your truck and not about where it worked.
Construction crews and the trucks they run
Construction accounts for 98 of the 579 jobs counted in Wauna for 2023 by the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, a share of 16.9 percent. Flatbeds, dump trucks, service bodies and small tractors are the kind of equipment that work produces, and all of them are trucks we purchase. Have the title in your name and the current registration to hand before you call.
For a contractor here who is closing out a job or thinning the yard, one truck or several can be handled in the same conversation. List each unit with its VIN, body type and where it is parked around Wauna, and keep any service records with the title so they travel together.
Naval yards
Naval yards and rail to the north
Two military installations sit north of town on Bureau of Transportation Statistics records: NG Bremerton at 11.7 miles and Naval Base Kitsap Bremerton at 12.1 miles. A truck that has been parked or stored on base property needs someone with access to meet us, so arrange that contact before giving us the address.
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, shows the BREMERTON NAVAL rail yard 11.9 miles north and UNION STATION 13.9 miles south-east of Wauna. If your truck is left near either yard after a move, it can stay there; send the location and we collect it where it stands.
Flower and cattle country
Flowers, cattle and hemp across the county
Pierce County holds 1,347 farms, and cut flowers and cultivated greens lead its products ahead of cattle and hemp, according to USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. Box trucks that move flowers, stock trucks and farm flatbeds are all welcome, and a farm truck can be collected from the barn or the field gate.
Farm-plated trucks still need a title that matches the name of the person selling. If the title has gone missing, ask the state’s title agency, Washington’s vehicle licensing office, for a replacement before we schedule anything, and send us a photo of the plate and the VIN plate in the meantime.
Paused enforcement on Ecology’s ACT and Omnibus rules
Washington’s Department of Ecology, in a guidance publication, lists enforcement of the Advanced Clean Trucks rule, adopted from California under the state’s Clean Vehicles Program, as paused. That same Department of Ecology document gives the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus, WAC 173-423-081, the same paused status.
Ecology’s updated regulatory guidance for those rules is the item listed as in force. Keep your engine’s emissions label legible and photograph it with the VIN plate, so the truck’s model year and engine family are clear from the start.
The questions we get asked in Wauna
- My dump truck sits at Airport Pit or Bethel Pit - does it have to come home to Wauna first?Airport Pit sits 3.3 miles north of Wauna in Mine Safety and Health Administration records, and a truck left there or at Bethel Pit can stay put. Tell us who opens the gate and we arrange the pickup with them.
- Will you take a dump truck or flatbed that worked Wauna construction jobs?Construction holds 16.9 percent of Wauna’s 579 jobs in the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023, and dump trucks, flatbeds and service-body trucks from that work are what we purchase. A VIN, a few photos and whose name sits on the title get things started.
- What do I need ready to sell a farm truck from Pierce County?Pierce County’s 1,347 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture run trucks of every kind, and for any of them we need a title in the seller’s name, the registration and clear photos of the cab, body and VIN plate.
