East along the harbor
Terminals and rail yards past Hoquiam
Twelve and a half miles east of Westport, the North American Rail Network maintained by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Hoquiam yard. A tractor that shuttles loads between the harbor and that yard can stay parked where it last dropped a trailer; give us the street or lot and we plan the collection there.
A little farther on, at 13.6 miles, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists the Port of Grays Harbor liquid bulk terminal, and the Energy Information Administration records a petroleum product terminal at Hoquiam at 13.7 miles. If your truck pulled a tanker between those two sites, tell us which trailer setup it ran with and send the registration with your first message.
Terminal 4, the Omni-Terminal roll-on/roll-off berth, sits 14.2 miles east on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list. For a car hauler or lowboy that loads off that berth, photograph the deck, the ramps and the cab together in one frame.
Pit and quarry haul
Quarry trucks south-east and east of town
Hawks Superior Rock, a crushed-stone quarry the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 20.4 miles south-east of Westport, and Wynoochee Pit East, a sand and gravel operation 23.7 miles east on the same agency’s records, both load dump trucks and end dumps. If yours is still at a pit, name the operation and who can let us through the gate.
Aggregate trucks often carry a body or trailer that was fitted after the chassis left the factory. Write down the body maker if you know it, keep any paperwork from the upfit, and include both the chassis VIN and the body serial plate in your photos.
Log bunks, flatbeds and car decks on the coast
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 20 active carriers based in Westport, and 17 of them operate intrastate only, with 3 crossing state lines. Most trucks sold from here will therefore carry Washington plates and Washington paperwork alone; have the current registration card in the cab when we arrive.
General freight is the commonest cargo listed, on 6 of those registrations, while logs, poles, beams and lumber, machinery and large objects, and motor vehicles each appear on 3, according to the same federal census. A log truck with its bunks and stakes, a flatbed set up for machinery, or a car hauler are all trucks we collect from the coast.
Fifteen of the 20 run as private fleets moving their own goods, the FMCSA census shows. If the truck belongs to a business rather than to you personally, have the title in the business name and someone able to sign for it.
Drivers and fleet sizes
Small outfits close to the harbor
Of the 52 drivers on Westport registrations, 36 stay within a hundred-mile radius and 16 range farther, on FMCSA’s carrier census figures. So the truck you sell is most likely parked somewhere between the harbor towns and the inland yards rather than on a long-haul route; tell us which.
The biggest fleet in town, per the federal census, runs 18 power units with 13 drivers; the next have 5 units with 6 drivers and 3 units with 8. Selling two or three trucks from a yard that size is one visit: list each VIN, and we arrange the collection of all of them together.
A manufacturing town on the water
Manufacturing holds just over half of the work located in Westport, 52.3 percent in 2023 according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES). Box trucks, reefers and day cabs serving plants at the harbor are part of what we buy; note whether the truck carried a refrigeration unit and keep its service log with the paperwork.
Inland across Grays Harbor County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 369 farms, with milk, cattle and cut Christmas trees as the leading products. Milk tankers, livestock haulers and flatbeds that carried trees out each winter are welcome; send the trailer’s own plate and registration if it is part of the sale.
The South Bend auto license counter
Washington titles are issued by the Washington State Department of Licensing, which works through vehicle and vessel licensing offices. The PACIFIC COUNTY AUDITOR AUTO LICENSE office at 300 Memorial Ave, South Bend, 98586, sits 21.5 miles from Westport on the Washington State Department of Licensing office list, and there you can request a duplicate title if yours has gone missing.
Start the replacement before we schedule the truck, and bring the registration and your identification to South Bend. If a lender is still listed on the title, have the lien release in hand as well, so the signed title and the release travel together.
Paused enforcement for coastal diesels
The Washington Department of Ecology lists the Advanced Clean Trucks rule, as adopted in Washington’s Clean Vehicles Program, and the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus under WAC 173-423-081; enforcement of both is paused. Its updated regulatory guidance for Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks and the Omnibus is in force.
Westport owners selling a diesel tractor or straight truck can keep any emissions labels and engine certification stickers in place and photograph them. Those plates show the engine family, which is what any later question about the rules will turn on.
The questions we get asked in Westport
- My log rig sits by the Hoquiam yard, twelve miles inland. Does it have to come back out to the coast first? The Hoquiam yard is 12.4 miles east of Westport on the North American Rail Network, and we collect there or anywhere along the harbor. Tell us which siding or lot it is on and who holds the key to that gate.

Request the duplicate there before the pickup is booked.
- Do you buy dump trucks that work the gravel pits inland?Wynoochee Pit East, 23.7 miles east, and Hawks Superior Rock, 20.4 miles south-east, are both on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and dump trucks from either are trucks we collect. Send photos of the body and both serial plates.
- Are Washington’s clean truck rules being enforced on my sale?Washington’s Department of Ecology shows enforcement paused for the Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rules. Keep the engine’s emissions label on the truck and in your photos.
