Timber loads out of Winlock
Of the 79 active carriers based in Winlock on FMCSA’s carrier census, 34 list logs, poles, beams or lumber among their cargo, close behind the 38 that carry general freight. A log truck or a flatbed that has spent its working life on forest roads is exactly what we come out to collect, whether it is parked at the house, at a landing or in a shop yard off the highway.
Twenty Winlock carriers also mark machinery and large objects as cargo, according to the same federal census. When you contact us, name the trailer setup the tractor has been pulling and send photos of the cab, the frame and the fifth wheel or bunks so we know what we are loading.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists Good Portable Crusher, a sand and gravel operation 3.5 miles north-west of Winlock, and Mandy Rd Pit, another sand and gravel site 6.1 miles south. Dump trucks and end-dumps that cycle between those pits and job sites can be sold from wherever they sit; give us the site name and who can open the gate.
Farther south-east, two crushed-stone quarries appear in MSHA’s records: Portable 4 at 11.2 miles and Rock Quarry at 16.3 miles from town. If your truck is parked at a quarry rather than at home, tell us so at the start, and have the registration and any service records ready to hand over when we arrive.
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau counts 24 construction establishments for the area around Winlock. A contractor winding down a dump truck or a water truck from that work can sell one unit at a time, with the title in the company name and a signer who is authorised to release it.
Rail sidings north and a river dock south-east
At 16.4 miles north, the CENTRALIA rail yard is on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics; ROCKY POINT YARD lies 22.6 miles south on that same network. Tractors that shuttle loads to either yard are trucks we handle, and a VIN plus the odometer reading is the quickest way to start.
The Port of Longview, WA, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists 18.9 miles south-east of Winlock, is the closest port to town. If your rig works the docks there and is parked in a terminal lot, let us know whose lot it is so pickup can be arranged with them.
FMCSA’s carrier census splits Winlock’s 79 carriers into 53 that operate intrastate and 26 that cross state lines, and 43 of them run private fleets carrying their own goods. A farm, sawmill or contractor selling a truck it used for its own hauling sells it to us the same way a for-hire carrier does.
The biggest fleets based in town run nine, eight and six power units on the federal carrier census, so most sellers here are owner-operators or family outfits. Among the 24 Winlock carriers that report mileage to FMCSA, the median sits near 30,000 miles per truck a year; jot your truck’s current reading down before you call.
FMCSA shows a handful of fresh Winlock registrations: five carriers in 2024 and a single one in 2025. If you bought a truck recently and are already moving on, the title transfer you completed is the paperwork we will need to see.
What the 2014 median tells you to bring
Thirty-five trucks belonging to Winlock carriers were stopped for checks between September 2024 and August 2026, and FMCSA roadside inspection records give their median model year as 2014. Those roadside inspection records put about 57 percent of the inspected trucks at ten or more model years old, so expect our questions to cover the year, the engine and the axle setup.
Inspection reports from those roadside stops are useful to have with the truck. Bring them along with the registration and the maintenance log so the whole history arrives in one place.
For a Winlock owner whose title has gone astray, the Washington State Department of Licensing handles the duplicate through its vehicle and vessel licensing offices. The nearest one to Winlock is BETTER WEIGH MFG., at 168 Foster Creek Rd, Toledo, 98591, about 6.7 miles from town on the Department of Licensing’s office list.
If the title is missing, start the replacement there before we schedule pickup, and keep the receipt. The registration card and your photo ID help both the licensing office and us confirm you are the owner on record.
Tree farms and dairies
Work beyond the logging roads
Close to a quarter of Winlock’s work is moving and storing goods: the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts place 125 of the town’s 555 jobs in 2023, or 22.5 percent, in transportation and warehousing. Drivers in that line of work often own the tractor they run, and we buy from individuals as readily as from companies.
Lewis County held 1,565 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cut Christmas trees, short-term woody crops and milk at the top of the list. Twenty-six Winlock carriers on FMCSA’s census haul farm supplies, so feed trucks, flatbeds and tractors from dairy and tree farms are welcome; tell us which farm the truck sits on.
