Fuel terminals south-east of Thornton
The Energy Information Administration lists a petroleum product terminal named DENVER 4.5 miles south-east of Thornton, and another, DUPONT, 6 miles to the south. If your tractor has pulled fuel tankers between those racks and Adams County stations, have the title and the current Colorado registration ready, and tell us which terminal it loaded at.
A liquid bulk terminal named Sunco appears in Bureau of Transportation Statistics listings 8.1 miles south of town. A tanker unit parked at a terminal lot can be collected right there; send us the lot address and the name of whoever can let our driver through the gate.
Sand Creek, North yard and the Irondale ramp
Sand Creek rail yard lies 7.5 miles south of Thornton, and the yard called NORTH sits 9.5 miles south-west, both on the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Day cabs that shuttle between those yards and Thornton warehouses are trucks we buy; photograph the cab, frame and fifth wheel before you contact us.
For container work, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics places the Denver, CO - Irondale intermodal ramp 9 miles south-west. If your chassis tractor runs Irondale drays, give us the VIN and odometer reading up front, along with any service records you kept from that work.
General freight, lumber and car haulers
Of the 1,625 active carriers FMCSA’s carrier census places in Thornton, general freight is the cargo listed by 874. The same FMCSA census shows 180 hauling machinery and large objects, 163 moving motor vehicles and 142 carrying logs, poles, beams and lumber; flatbeds, lowboys and car haulers from that work are trucks we buy.
Most of these operators stay inside Colorado: the same census shows 1,315 intrastate carriers against 309 interstate, plus 661 private fleets hauling their own goods. A truck that never left the state still sells to us the same way; the paperwork we ask for is the title in your name and its registration.
New authority keeps appearing in Thornton, with 115 carriers added in 2025 and 103 in 2024 according to FMCSA’s carrier census. If you registered recently and are now selling the tractor you started with, keep your USDOT number handy so we can match the truck to the business that owned it.
Thornton trucks at roadside inspection
Across 1,372 Thornton-based trucks stopped between August 2024 and August 2026, FMCSA roadside inspection records put the median model year at 2018, with 38.6 percent ten or more model years old. A 2018 tractor and a much older one are both trucks we purchase; open your message with year, make, model and VIN.
Among 288 carriers that reported mileage to FMCSA, the median comes to 13,542 miles a truck. Driver figures in the same carrier census split 5,911 drivers working within 100 miles against 2,626 who go farther out, so many Thornton trucks are parked close to home when we come to collect them.
Construction, gravel and farm country
County Business Patterns from the Census Bureau records 660 construction establishments here, and LEHD job counts for 2023 show 2,438 construction jobs among 39,563 in Thornton. Dump trucks and flatbeds from that trade can be picked up from a job yard; tell us the site and whether a tow truck can reach it.
Amrize Platte Valley Plant, a sand and gravel operation on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, is 9.8 miles north-east of town. Trucks hauling aggregate from that pit should come with the title and any scale or maintenance logs you have.
Beyond the suburbs, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 877 farms in Adams County, with wheat, corn and cattle at the top. Grain trucks and cattle haulers kept on a farm can be collected there, so share the farm address and a gate contact.
State clean truck regulations
Colorado’s Air Quality Control Commission has the Advanced Clean Trucks Rule in force, as published in the Colorado Code of Regulations by the Secretary of State. That rule covers new truck sales; it does not stop you selling a truck you already own.
The Heavy-Duty Low NOx Rule is also in force under that same published code. Keep the engine label and emissions paperwork with the truck so the model year and engine family are clear when we look at it.
