Rail on the riverbank
Two yards a mile from Edgemoor
The North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, maps a yard named EDGEMOOR 0.9 miles south-west of town and a second, listed as EDGE MOOR, 1 mile out in the same direction. If your tractor shuttles freight off those tracks, tell us which yard it works from when you first get in touch.
A truck that spends its shifts beside a rail siding is often parked right beside it. Give us the gate or lot where it is kept between loads and the name of whoever can let a driver in, and the collection gets planned around that spot rather than your driveway.
Tank tractors on the Norfolk Southern TBT run
Just 1.1 miles south-west of Edgemoor, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics records Norfolk Southern TBT as a liquid bulk terminal. Farther along, at 2.9 miles, the Energy Information Administration lists a petroleum product terminal under the name WILMINGTON. Tractors set up to pull tank trailers between those two sites are part of what we purchase.
For a tank tractor, have the title, the current registration and any terminal inspection sheets together before you call. Photos of the cab, the frame and the fifth wheel let us see the truck as you describe it, so send those with the VIN.
Containers and roll-on cargo at the Marine Terminal
Only 1.8 miles from town, the port of Wilmington, DE appears on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics list of ports. The same agency names the Port of Wilmington, DE - Marine Terminal, 2.9 miles south-west, as a roll-on/roll-off terminal and places a rail intermodal ramp, also called Marine Terminal, at that same 2.9-mile mark.
Day cabs that drag chassis between the ramp and the docks rarely leave this short corridor. If yours is one of them, the VIN and the odometer reading are the two things to send first; the rest of our questions follow from those.
Port-side trucks sometimes sit inside a secured area. Tell us if a pass or an escort is needed to reach the truck, and we arrange the pickup with the terminal’s rules in mind.
Mineral processing
Bulk haulers bound for the Wilmington Plant
Federal mine safety records from the Mine Safety and Health Administration show the Wilmington Plant, a mineral processing plant, 3.3 miles south-west of Edgemoor. Dump trucks and bulk haulers serving a plant like that are trucks we buy, whether they carry a single axle or a tri-axle body.
Sites like this keep their own entry logs and safety checks. Any copies you hold of those, plus service records from your own shop, help show where the truck has worked and what it has hauled.
Edgemoor’s 2,495 jobs on the LEHD rolls
In 2023 the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES) placed 2,495 jobs in Edgemoor. Of those, wholesale trade accounted for 87, or 3.5 percent, according to the same LEHD figures. Box trucks and straight trucks running wholesale deliveries out of town fit what we take.
Construction made up 70 of those 2023 jobs, a 2.8 percent share by the LEHD count. A contractor’s dump truck, flatbed or crane truck parked at a job site can be collected from that site; tell us the address and when the site is open.
Grain and horse farms in New Castle County
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counted 335 farms across New Castle County, with corn, soybeans and equine as the leading lines. A grain truck or a livestock hauler working those farms can be sold from the farm itself.
Farm trucks are sometimes titled in a family member’s name or a farm entity’s name. Check whose name is on the title before you call; if it has gone missing, the state’s title agency issues a replacement, and we can wait while that is sorted.
The questions we get asked in Edgemoor
- My tractor is parked by the rail yard south-west of Edgemoor. Does it have to come off that siding before you collect? The EDGEMOOR yard sits 0.9 miles south-west of town on the North American Rail Network, and we collect from beside it. Pass along the yard-side lot’s street address and whoever holds its gate key.
- Do you buy tank tractors that haul from the terminals near Wilmington?Norfolk Southern TBT, 1.1 miles away on Bureau of Transportation Statistics records, and the WILMINGTON petroleum product terminal the Energy Information Administration lists at 2.9 miles are both served by trucks we purchase. A tank tractor off either run should come with its VIN, the name on its title and cab-and-frame photos.
- My corn or horse truck is titled to our New Castle County farm. What do I check first?Among the 335 New Castle County farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, trucks are often titled to a farm entity, so check the name on the title first. Keep the farm’s registration card and its shop invoices beside that title.
