Pits south, west and north-west of the county seat
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists M L Joseph Sand & Gravel Company 3.6 miles south-east of Georgetown, a second sand and gravel operation called PLANT #2 6.3 miles west, and the Wolman industrial-mineral mine 6.8 miles south-west. If your dump truck or tri-axle hauls out of one of those pits, it can stay parked at the yard; tell us which site and who can let us through the gate.
Twenty miles north-west, Porter Sand & Gravel appears in the same MSHA listing as an industrial-mineral mine. A truck kept up there is collected where it sits, so send the address, a few clear photos of the bed, frame and cab, and the VIN, and the questions we ask afterward will be about that truck alone.
Grain, feed and produce hauling in Sussex County
Sussex County held 1,053 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with corn, soybeans and wheat as its leading crops. A grain truck or hopper tractor that runs between those fields and the elevators is something we purchase, and it can be picked up at the farm lane or the shed where it spends the off-season.
Among Georgetown carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census, 17 haul grain, feed and hay and another 17 carry fresh produce. For a seasonal truck like those, have the title in your name and the current registration card ready, and tell us whether the truck is stored indoors, outdoors or at a neighbour’s barn so the collection crew knows where to look.
Flatbeds, lowboys and general-freight boxes
General freight is listed by 54 and machinery or large objects by 22 of the 116 active Georgetown carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census. Lowboys, flatbeds and box trucks from that mix all fit what we take, so tell us the body type and trailer setup first and we can work from there.
Of those carriers, 75 run interstate and 41 stay within Delaware, while 60 are private fleets moving their own goods, according to the same FMCSA census. If your truck belongs to a business rather than to you personally, the person who signs the title has to be someone authorised to sign for that business, so line that up before we schedule anything.
New registrations in town show up in FMCSA’s census as well: 10 new carriers in 2025 and 8 in 2024. A newer operation selling a tractor should have the title, any lien release from the lender, and the registration together in one folder.
What the inspected trucks here look like
Roadside inspection records from FMCSA cover 155 Georgetown-based trucks inspected between September 2024 and August 2026, and the median model year among them is 2018. Roughly a third of those Georgetown trucks, 33.6 percent in FMCSA’s inspection records, carried a model year ten or more years back.
Whatever the model year of yours, the paperwork that helps is the same: the title, the registration, and any annual inspection reports or service records you have kept. Photograph the VIN plate and the odometer along with the outside of the truck, and send those with your first message.
Short hauls around Sussex, long hauls beyond
Per FMCSA’s carrier census, Georgetown outfits field 410 drivers who stay inside 100 miles and 167 who go farther. For a truck on short local runs, give us the address where it is kept when it is not working, not the job site it visits.
Half the trucks run by 52 reporting Georgetown carriers log under 16,125 miles a year and half log more, on FMCSA’s mileage filings. If your rig is out on a longer haul when you contact us, tell us the date it returns to Sussex County and where it will be left.
Plants, contractors and multi-truck owners
Georgetown had 7,783 jobs in 2023 on the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts, including 1,189 in manufacturing, 318 in construction and 159 in transportation and warehousing. A box truck or straight truck that served a plant or a building crew in town can be sold by the business that owns it, provided the title matches that business name.
For builders, the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns tallies 56 construction firms based in Georgetown. If a contractor is retiring a dump truck or a rollback, list any attached equipment, such as a plow mount or a hoist, so it is described correctly from the start.
The biggest Georgetown carrier in FMCSA’s census runs 242 power units with 142 drivers, and the next two run 33 and 19 power units. Sellers with several trucks to move can send one list of VINs, locations and titles, and we will work through it truck by truck.
The questions we get asked in Georgetown
- Does a dump truck left at a Sussex County gravel pit have to come into Georgetown first?Pits such as M L Joseph Sand & Gravel, 3.6 miles south-east of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, are places we collect from directly. Name the pit and the person who holds the gate key there.
- Can I sell a grain truck that only works harvest season?Sussex County’s 1,053 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture grow mostly corn, soybeans and wheat, and the trucks that serve them are ones we buy in any month. Have the title and registration ready and tell us where it is stored.
- How does a company-titled truck from a Georgetown private fleet get signed over?Sixty of the 116 Georgetown carriers in FMCSA’s carrier census are private fleets hauling their own goods. Whoever signs the title must be authorised to sign for the company, and any lien release should be with the title.
