Sand, gravel and the mines around Milford
Porter Sand & Gravel, an industrial-mineral mine listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, lies 6.1 miles north-west of Milford. A dump truck or tri-axle that works that pit is often parked at the yard rather than at home, so tell us which gate it sits behind and who holds the key.
Further south, the Mine Safety and Health Administration places PLANT #2, a sand and gravel operation, 15.1 miles from town, with SEAFORD-DE SAND & GRAVEL 17.5 miles to the south-west and the Wolman mine 20.6 miles south. If your truck splits its weeks between those sites, give us the address where it is usually parked, and the pickup is planned there.
For an aggregate truck, photos of the body, the hoist and the cab together let us see the whole unit in one go. Add the title and the current registration card, and the conversation can start with the truck itself.
Corn, soybean and wheat country trucks
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 1,053 farms in Sussex County, and corn, soybeans and wheat lead its crops. Grain trucks and straight trucks on those farms tend to stay in a barn or beside a field between harvests, which is fine; we can arrange collection on farm ground.
Among Milford’s registered carriers, FMCSA’s carrier census shows 14 hauling grain, feed and hay and another 14 carrying farm supplies. If your truck has done seasonal grain runs, a note of what it hauled and any service records you kept will answer most of our questions before we ask them.
On the jobs side, the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts for 2023 put 59 local positions in agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting. Farm owners selling a single truck often have the title filed with other farm papers, so look it out early.
Interstate tractors, car carriers and in-house trucks based near Rehoboth Boulevard
General freight is listed by 64 of the 111 Milford carriers that FMCSA’s carrier census counts as active. On that FMCSA census, 71 operate interstate, 40 stay inside Delaware, and 61 are private fleets moving their own goods.
Eighteen of the town’s carriers haul motor vehicles, according to the same federal census, so car haulers and their tractors are part of the local mix. Send photos of the deck and ramps along with the tractor, and tell us whether the two are sold together.
The three biggest fleets registered here run 406, 154 and 20 power units by FMCSA’s count, and new registrations reached 11 in 2025 after 8 in 2024. Whether you run one tractor or a yard full, we look at each truck on its own VIN.
Manufacturing jobs and local freight
Plant floors hold 2,521 of Milford’s 9,032 jobs, a 27.9 percent manufacturing share in the Census Bureau’s 2023 LEHD job counts. Box trucks and day cabs that shuttle between plants and docks usually sit at a business lot; let us know who manages it so pickup can be arranged with them.
Wholesale trade adds 182 jobs and construction 207, by those LEHD figures, while County Business Patterns lists 66 construction establishments and 4 warehousing establishments here. A contractor’s truck parked on a job site can be collected there if you give us the site address and a contact.
FMCSA records show 574 drivers working within 100 miles of their base and 201 beyond it, and a median of 20,000 miles a year per truck across 33 reporting carriers. Have the odometer reading ready with the VIN when you contact us.
What the roadside stops show about Milford tractors
Between September 2024 and August 2026, inspectors stopped 133 trucks belonging to carriers based in this Mispillion River town, according to FMCSA roadside inspection records. Those FMCSA roadside records give a median model year of 2017, and 42 percent were ten or more model years old.
Whatever year your truck is, the VIN plate, a photo of the dash and a shot of each side tell us which model and spec we are looking at. If it carries an inspection report from a recent roadside stop, include it with the rest of the paperwork.
Bridges and the road to Dover
The National Bridge Inventory lists 16 bridges in Milford, one of them load-posted, and the lowest clearance is 13 ft 11 in where Rehoboth Boulevard crosses the Mispillion River. Tell us if the truck is parked on the far side of that crossing so we plan a route around it.
Dover Air Force Base, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics lists as a military installation, lies 15.1 miles north of town. If your truck is parked near the base or on a lot with gate rules, give us the contact who can let a driver in.
The questions we get asked in Milford
- My dump truck is kept at a gravel pit outside town. Will someone come out to Porter’s yard for it, or must I haul it home to Milford?Porter Sand & Gravel sits 6.1 miles north-west of Milford on Mine Safety and Health Administration listings, and trucks parked at pits like that one are collected where they stand. Tell us the gate, the yard contact and where on site the truck is parked.
- I farm in Sussex County and only use the grain truck at harvest. Can I sell it now?Sussex County has 1,053 farms on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, and plenty of trucks there sit between seasons. Send photos and the title, and we can arrange collection from the farm.
- Is a 2017 truck too new or too old for you?Trucks from Milford carriers inspected by FMCSA have a median model year of 2017, and we look at trucks of every model year. A Milford truck of any year starts the same way: the VIN, the odometer figure and a few photos.
- Before a pickup on the Mispillion, what title and registration papers go with the truck?Milford sellers should have the title, the current registration and any service or inspection records. If the title is lost, tell us before collection so it can be replaced through the state’s title office first.
