Baltimore is a port city on eighty-one square miles of land, and nearly half its carriers haul their own goods rather than for hire. The median carrier reports 18,000 miles a year on each power unit, a harbor number, and one job in fourteen inside the city is in transportation and warehousing.

Maryland sets its gross by axle count up to the federal 80,000 pounds on five, with a heavier single axle for a truck registered light, and the Maryland page has the table and the permit tiers. Baltimore's own list is short, seven bridges with a load posting and seven under fourteen feet, so a four-axle truck that lived at the state figure and a five-axle tractor at the cap worked under the same signs.
