Gravel at the town line
Orona and Cordova Pit, a couple of miles out
The Mine Safety and Health Administration lists two sand and gravel operations almost on the edge of town: Orona, 2.1 miles north-west, and Cordova Pit, 2.2 miles in the same direction. A tandem dump or a belly-dump tractor that spends its days between those gates and local job sites is exactly the sort of truck we collect around El Cerro Mission. If yours is parked at either pit, give us the pit name and who holds the gate key.
Before we talk, find the title and the current registration for the dump body’s chassis, and note the VIN off the door jamb. Photos of the bed, the hoist, the frame rails and the cab interior let us see the whole truck without a visit. Service records, if you kept them, belong in the same folder.
Crusher and mineral sites
Quarry and mine hauling to the west
Farther out, Mountain States Crusher GCP 3164 is a crushed-stone quarry 13.6 miles west of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s mine list, and Los Padillas Pit, an industrial-mineral mine, sits 14.2 miles north-west in that same federal register. Trucks hauling aggregate from a crusher site often stay parked there between shifts, and that is fine with us.
Tell us whether the truck is at the quarry, at your house, or at a contractor’s yard in Valencia County. We plan the collection around the spot you name and the hours someone can let us in. Have the title signed by every owner listed on it, or tell us at the start if a lender still holds it.
From the Belen tracks to the north-side tank farms
Eleven miles south-west of El Cerro Mission, toward the Rio Grande valley’s rail hub, sits the BELEN yard listed on the North American Rail Network. Day cabs and drayage tractors that shuttle freight between a rail yard and warehouses fit the list of trucks we take. A tractor that worked Belen can be collected wherever it now sits, in town or out by the tracks.
Heading north, two petroleum product terminals appear in Energy Information Administration records, one listed as ALBUQUERQUE NM at 15.1 miles and one as ALBUQUERQUE at 15.5 miles. Fuel tankers and the tractors that pull them run that stretch of road, and both are trucks we buy. If the trailer sells with the tractor, send photos of the tank, its plates and any placard holders along with the cab.
Horses, greenhouses and tomatoes in Valencia County
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 978 farms in Valencia County, and it names equine, potted flowering plants and tomatoes as the county’s top lines. That mix brings horse trailers and their tow trucks, box trucks moving greenhouse stock, and flatbeds or refrigerated units hauling produce onto local roads.
A farm truck often sits in a barn or behind a greenhouse rather than in a paved lot. Tell us which gate to use and whether a tow rig can reach the truck on a dirt lane. If the registration lapsed while the truck was used only on the farm, say so; the title is what we need to see first.
New Mexico’s heavy-duty engine and zero-emission rules
The New Mexico Register shows two state air-quality rules in force: the Advanced Clean Trucks requirement for medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles, and the Heavy-Duty Omnibus exhaust standards for heavy-duty engines. Owners around El Cerro Mission with a diesel tractor or straight truck to let go can sell it to us outright, whichever engine standard it was built to.
Have the engine’s model and serial plate photographed along with the emissions label, if the truck still carries one. Those two pictures tell us which engine family we are looking at. Keep the title, registration and your photo set together and send them in one go.
Kirtland Air Force Base and the north side
Kirtland Air Force Base is 18.3 miles north-east of El Cerro Mission, per the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Contractors who supply a base run box trucks, flatbeds and service bodies, and we collect those too when they come off a contract.
If the truck is parked near the base or anywhere on Albuquerque’s south side, give us the street address rather than a description of the area. Mention any gate pass or escort rule at the lot so the pickup crew arrives prepared.
The questions we get asked in El Cerro Mission
- Will you pick up a dump truck sitting inside the Orona sand and gravel pit?Orona sits 2.1 miles north-west of town on the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s list, and we can pick the truck up at the pit. Give us the operator’s contact so the gate is open when the crew arrives.
- I pulled loads from the Belen rail yard and have since left Valencia County; can the tractor stay where it is?The BELEN yard is 11 miles south-west of El Cerro Mission on the North American Rail Network, and the tractor can stay parked near it. Send us the address and the name of someone who can unlock it, and handle the paperwork from wherever you live now.
- Do you take horse-trailer tow trucks and farm flatbeds from Valencia County?Valencia County has 978 farms in USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with equine first among its top lines, and the trucks that serve those farms are on our list. Send the title, registration and photos of the truck and the hitch.
- What do I need ready before I call? For an El Cerro Mission truck, start with the signed title, the current registration and the VIN, then add photos of the cab, frame and any body or trailer. Service records help if you have them, but they are not required.
