Fuel west of the base
Product terminals and tank work along the west side
The Energy Information Administration places the Albuquerque Prodts Trmnl, a petroleum product terminal, 4.8 miles west of Kirtland AFB, and a second terminal named Albuquerque 5.6 miles to the north-west. A tractor that has loaded at either rack is usually a day cab coupled to a tank trailer, and we buy both the tractor and the trailer. When you get in touch, say which rack it pulled from and whether the trailer goes with the sale.
Holly Asphalt, a liquid bulk terminal seven miles north-west of the base gate area, is on the Bureau of Transportation Statistics roster of terminals. Heated tankers and the tractors that pull them out of that yard are welcome here. Gather the title, the current registration and any tank test or inspection reports, and send them with your first message.
Drayage between Abajo and the Albuquerque intermodal ramp
Two entries for the Albuquerque-Abajo rail yard, at 5.2 and 5.3 miles west, are carried in the North American Rail Network kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Drayage tractors working that yard often sit on a lot near the tracks between moves. Give us the lot’s address and the name of whoever holds the gate key, and we arrange the collection with them directly.
Container chassis and the day cabs that move them out of the Albuquerque intermodal ramp, which the Bureau of Transportation Statistics puts 5.2 miles west, are part of what we purchase. Send the VIN, an odometer photo and pictures of the cab, the frame and the fifth wheel first; the rest of our questions build on those.
Dump trucks on the run west to Wright Pit
Kirtland AFB’s nearest pit is Wright Pit, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration records as a sand and gravel operation 9.6 miles to the west. Dump trucks, end dumps and belly-dump tractors hauling from a pit like that are trucks we take. Tell us the bed or trailer type and its length, since that shapes how we plan the pickup.
If the dump truck is still parked at the pit or at a contractor’s yard nearby, it can stay there. A seller who is out of state or posted elsewhere can handle every step by phone and email, as long as someone local can give our driver access on collection day.
Kirtland AFB jobs and Bernalillo dairy and cattle farms
The Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts (LODES) record 17,986 jobs in Kirtland AFB for 2023. Box trucks, service bodies and straight trucks used on that work all fit what we buy; list the body type and any lift gate or crane when you write to us.
USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 964 farms across Bernalillo County, with milk, cattle and equine named as the leading products. Livestock haulers, feed trucks and milk tankers from those operations are on our list. Photos of the trailer floor and the hitch, together with the title, make the first conversation short.
Engine standards in force
What the zero-emission and exhaust rules ask of a seller near the base
According to the New Mexico Register, the state’s Advanced Clean Trucks rule and its Heavy-Duty Omnibus exhaust standard for heavy-duty engines are both in force. If you hold any emissions label or engine certification paperwork for the truck, keep it with the title.
The state Court of Appeals has also issued a decision in a challenge brought against the Environmental Improvement Board over those rules. None of that changes what a seller here needs to hand over: the title in your name, the registration, and keys for every lock on the truck.
Titles and getting the truck ready
A missing or misplaced title is handled through the state’s title agency, and the request can go in before you first contact us. If a lender still holds the title, tell us the lender’s name so the lien release can be planned into the sale.
On the day we collect, clear personal items out of the cab and sleeper, leave the logbook device or note that it was removed, and have the registration in the glove box. Our driver checks the VIN against the title before loading.
The questions we get asked in Kirtland AFB
- My tractor is parked by the Abajo rail yard west of Kirtland AFB. Can it stay beside the tracks until pickup? The Albuquerque-Abajo yard is listed 5.2 miles west in the North American Rail Network, and we collect from lots around it. Leave the truck where it sits and tell us who can open the gate.
- Will you take an end dump that hauls gravel out of Wright Pit, west of Kirtland AFB?Wright Pit, 9.6 miles west on Mine Safety and Health Administration records, is a sand and gravel operation, and its dump trucks and end-dump trailers are trucks we buy. Photos of the bed and tailgate plus the VIN are what we look at first for a Wright Pit truck.
- I’m being transferred off base. Can I sell the truck after I leave New Mexico?Kirtland Air Force Base is listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics as a military installation, and sellers posted away from it can finish the sale remotely. Arrange for someone nearby to hand over the keys, and keep the title with you to sign.
