A pit less than a mile out and the dump trucks it keeps busy
A dump truck or end-dump trailer that has worked that pit can stay parked near the gate; tell us where it sits and who can let us in, and the collection is planned around that spot.
Construction filled 105 of the 218 jobs located in La Luz in 2023, or 48.2 percent, according to the Census Bureau’s LEHD job counts. If your truck spent its days on local building sites, have the title and current registration together before you call, plus a few photos of the bed, the cab and the VIN plate.
FMCSA’s carrier census counts 16 active carriers based in La Luz, and 15 of them are registered for intrastate work only, against a single interstate operation. A truck that has never left New Mexico is exactly what we collect, and it does not need interstate authority or paperwork from other states to sell.
Ten of those sixteen are private fleets hauling their own goods rather than freight for hire, again on FMCSA’s census. That census shows the biggest local operation with 9 power units and 6 drivers and the next two with 4 each, so a small yard of two or three units can go together: list every VIN in one message and we collect them on one visit.
Of the drivers on those carriers’ filings, 25 stay inside a 100-mile radius and 14 go further, as FMCSA records it. Short-radius day cabs and longer-haul sleepers are both on our list; tell us which one you have and where it is parked tonight.
Machinery haulers, refuse trucks and log rigs
General freight leads the cargo filed by La Luz carriers with six operations, and FMCSA’s census puts machinery and large objects close behind with five. Lowboys, tilt-decks and the tractors that pull them are trucks we take; send the trailer’s own title along with the tractor’s if you are selling both.
Three local carriers list garbage and refuse, and two list logs, poles, beams and lumber, per the same FMCSA filings. A roll-off, rear-loader or log truck is collected like any other unit, so photograph the body or bunks as well as the chassis and note any hydraulic equipment mounted on it.
A contractor closing out a job and selling the truck that served it can do so while the truck stays at the yard or the site.
Lost the title? The MVD field office is next door
Titles here are issued by the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division, and its NM MVD Field Office - Alamogordo, at 263C Robert H Bradley Dr, Alamogordo 88310, is three miles from La Luz. A replacement title is requested through that office, one of the agency’s MVD field offices, before the sale closes.
Take the VIN, your registration and photo ID to that Alamogordo counter. If a lender still holds a lien, get its written release as well. Once the duplicate is in hand, send us a photo of both sides and we set up the pickup.
Holloman, the IMTT terminal and the base road
If your truck is stored on property out toward the base, give us the exact address and any access rules for the gate before we schedule a visit.
Seventeen miles south, the Energy Information Administration lists IMTT Alamogordo as a petroleum product terminal. A tanker tractor that has pulled from that rack can be sold from wherever it now sits; include the tank trailer’s records if it goes with the tractor.
Otero County holds 467 farms on USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, with cattle first, then horses and other equine, then goats. Livestock haulers, stock-trailer tractors and flatbeds that move feed from a ranch near La Luz are all trucks we collect at the ranch itself.
Mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction accounted for 55 of the jobs placed in La Luz for 2023, a 25.2 percent share in the Census Bureau’s LEHD figures. Whether the truck served a ranch or a quarry, a clear photo of the odometer and the VIN is the first thing we ask to see.
New Mexico has Advanced Clean Trucks in force for zero-emission sales, and Heavy-Duty Omnibus in force for engine exhaust standards. Both apply to new trucks; a used diesel tractor or dump truck sitting in La Luz today can be sold to us as it is.
If you are replacing an older unit with a newer one under those standards, keep the old truck’s title and registration on hand so the sale of the outgoing truck goes through without a gap.
