Dump trucks loading a short haul from Las Maravillas
Two sand and gravel operations listed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration lie barely out of town: Orona at 3.5 miles north and Cordova Pit at 3.9 miles north. A dump truck or end-dump trailer that hauls from either one may still be parked at the pit when you decide to sell, and we can collect it there as long as you tell us who holds the gate key and whether loaders are working that day.
Pit trucks in Las Maravillas often carry their history in a glovebox folder rather than a shop system. Gather the title, the current New Mexico registration and any service invoices you kept, then photograph the bed, the hoist and the cab so we can see the whole truck before we arrange the pickup.
Quarry runs west and the mineral pit up toward the city
Mountain States Crusher GCP 3164, a crushed-stone quarry, is 13.3 miles west of Las Maravillas according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and the same federal agency lists Los Padillas Pit, an industrial-mineral mine, 16 miles north. Trucks that cycle between those two sites and the valley’s job sites spend most of their day on the road rather than in a yard.
If your truck is out at the quarry or up at Los Padillas, give us the site name and the nearest cross street; a driver can meet it where it stands. Mention whether it is a tandem, a tri-axle or a tractor pulling a belly-dump, since that settles what kind of equipment we bring for the collection.
The rail yard south-west of town
On the North American Rail Network, kept by the Federal Railroad Administration and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the BELEN rail yard is 8.5 miles south-west of Las Maravillas. Day cabs that shuttle loads to and from a rail yard like that one are trucks we buy, and so are the tractors parked between runs at a driver’s home here in town.
For a tractor that has worked out of Belen, have the title in the registered owner’s name and a clear photo of the VIN plate on the door jamb. If the truck carries apportioned plates, keep the cab card with it so the registration details match the title when we check them.
Tankers up the valley
Tank work toward Albuquerque and the air base
The Energy Information Administration lists two petroleum product terminals north of Las Maravillas, one at 17.5 miles and the other at 17.8 miles, both under the Albuquerque name. A fuel tanker or tank-trailer tractor based in Las Maravillas likely runs that corridor, and we purchase those units along with the trailers they pull.
Kirtland Air Force Base, listed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics at 20.9 miles north-east, is the other large site on that side of the valley. Whether your truck hauled fuel, supplies or base contract loads, tell us what it carried and send the tank or trailer inspection paperwork if you have it on hand.
When a Las Maravillas truck has no title in the drawer
A gravel truck from the Orona pit, which the Mine Safety and Health Administration lists 3.5 miles north of Las Maravillas, is titled like any other truck in town, and a missing certificate is replaced through the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division. The New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division office map shows the nearest counter as the NM MVD Field Office - Los Lunas at 1204 MAIN ST NE ste A, Los Lunas, 87031, 5.9 miles from Las Maravillas.
Apply for the duplicate there before you get in touch if you can, carrying your ID and the VIN. Where a lender’s lien is still printed on the title, ask that lender for a release letter, and bring it along so the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division can clear the lien before the title passes to us.
River farms
Horses, nurseries and tomato growers
Across Valencia County, USDA’s 2022 Census of Agriculture counts 978 farms, and its top listed products there are equine, potted flowering plants and tomatoes. Farm trucks around Las Maravillas therefore include stake beds, flatbeds and box trucks that move hay, nursery stock and produce along the river.
A farm truck sold from a ranch or a greenhouse lot can be collected right where it sits. Check whether it carries farm plates, since the registration class matters when the title is transferred, and take photos in daylight so the bed and the cab both show clearly.
Advanced Clean Trucks and Omnibus for a Las Maravillas seller
New Mexico’s administrative code puts a pair of heavy-duty rules in force: Advanced Clean Trucks, the medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicle requirement, and Heavy-Duty Omnibus, the exhaust emission standards for heavy-duty engines.
Las Maravillas owners selling a diesel tractor or dump truck do not need to do anything about these rules before we collect it. Note the engine make and model year from the emissions label under the hood and include a photo of that label with the rest.
